I'm planning on getting the SVC GC68 to cool my new XP 1800+. My current temps seem to range anywhere from 43-49 degrees with the retail heatsink. How much of an improvement would I see with this fan? (1 to 2 degrees maybe or 5+?) How does the noise compare to the retail heatsink? And finally, I'm planning to order from here and it has options for fan, grille/finger guard and thermal interface material? I don't need that stuff to use the fan do I? I can just take off my old fan and put the new one on? Thanks in advance for any help.

i can't imagine it improving your temps much, if any. the noise would be an improvement though. your retail fan is probably about 31-32 db, whereas the one that comes with the gc68 is rated at 28 db. it comes already with a fan and grill...and i think some thermal paste, but i don't remember for sure. you should be able to just take off the old and put on the new one.

I dont beleive it comes with grease. Just pick up a artice alumina for 3 bux and a grill for a buck and you'll be good as gold.

It should drop the temp by 3 to 4 degreee over the oem cooler master heatsink when installed properly.
