ok, so I got this email today from SVCity.com, they have some direct price comparissions to SVC.com

well, this is what SVC has to say about it.

*NOTE* *BEWARE* It has come to our attention that there may be a cheap imitation of our store on the internet. The real SVC, Silicon Valley Compucycle, would like to officially state that we are NOT in any way affiliated with nor condone doing business with this web store. We will not guarantee or warranty any products or services provided or offered by this company. They are currently guilty of several acts of copyright infringement, trademark infringement and other unethical business practices. These acts have also been noticed by www.pcabusers.com and other reputable and well recognized review sites. These sites have officially posted warnings to the computer enthusiast community regarding the questionable nature of this website. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

lazy me. how much is shipping?

a touch less than $5 for the ys-tech alone shipped to TX priority. not too bad. i was thinking about buying 2 or 3 of these a few weeks ago from svc with it getting hotter here in TX and all. replace my crappy antec case fans with these (already use one on the sk-7). but i decided against it cuz my temps havent been too bad yet. but at these prices, i might rethink it again.

however, like someone said, who the heck are these guys?? anyone wanna be the first to roll the dice?

This has gotta be an offshoot of SVC. They both sell the GC69 Heatsink witch is made by SVC. Check the links.

SVCity

SVC

That's most likely why they've got your email addy. Why don't you email them and ask. 🙂

I bet SVC has another location now or something. There current place was tiny, probably the size of a townhouse.

actually, they just remodled their old place. it looks very nice and clean.

There is NO relation between SVC and the rip off, svcity. From pca:

Consider this, a person works for a successful online store. He borrows some money, then quits with no notice.

So then what does he do? He makes an online store that looks like a copy of where he use to work, and he even has the audacity to use a very similar name. This is what happened to SVC.

You know of them, SVC.com. They have been around for years, or so it seems. Now a former employee has opened up an online store that is clearly modeled after SVC, and he even calls it SVCity. His main logo makes sure to highlight "SVC" in bold and larger letters. The real SVC is short for "Silicon Valley Compucycle", so he calls his site "Silicon Valley City", or svcity.com.

Anyway, just thought you'd want to know about them in case you ever consider buying from svcity.com. The real SVC is NOT in any way affiliated with nor condone doing business with that web store, neither does this site.

They are currently guilty of several acts of copyright infringement, trademark infringement and other unethical business practices.

I urge you all to NOT buy from that rip off company.

SVC.com is cool, svcity is NOT. 😉

Check out the SVC front page for more info.

This is where some loyalty needs to step in.
I've bought many specials from SVC. Quick service, excellent price, low shipping, no gripe.
I urge y'all to stand by SVC original.

no way affiliated with SVC.

its not made by SVC, its actually made by Galaxy... its just that SVC is the only store that sells it. This @ssmuncher probably took their contact list from galaxy w/ him... now, he can get them and sell them too.

In the interest of full disclosure, note that Blade is quoting the words he has posted on the PCabuse.com homepage, which lists SVC.com as a sponsor.

The persons behind SVCity.com can start a new venture, unless an evil non-compete clause applies, but they shouldn't infringe upon SVC.com properties. I'm not a lawyer, but if I played one on TV, I'd expect that SVCity will have to change its name.

Not only is SVCity leeching off SVC's reputation and customer base, it bothers me that they somehow acquired my email and spammed me. Even though it's acceptable for an employee or partner to leave a company and start a similar one, there are restrictions on intellectual property and stealing the customer database!

Interesting....the fictitious business name statement for the SVCity "parent" company, ORBIT WORLD MARKETING USA, was filed on 12/3/2002. The owner's name is Hilal A Kureshi. Ring any bells with anyone that knows some of the SVC people?

Oh, the address they give is right in the middle of a residential area so is Mr Kureshi running this out of his house?

i got that email too--probably some disgruntled employee made off with a copy of the HTML code and the email list and started this company. i like that right under the disclaimer about SVCity they have an ad about hiring =)

Yeah... it took me a min to figure out that it was an imatation. They pretty much have a lot of the basic products on SVcity on there. What cheap skates. What I'm concerned about is how SVCity got my e-mail? SVC is the ONLY yahoo based store that has my @yahoo.com address.

I hope SVCity gets taken down soon. Their site design is HORRIBLE. Props to SVC.com (the real one =D ).

What I'm concerned about is how SVCity got my e-mail?

That's because when that person left, he stole any info he could get his hands on. Including svc's business contacts, and it sounds like they even took emails from those who bought from svc.

The last 3 orders from SVC they messed up, and one of them they messed up 3 times in a row (you would think that after messing up an order they would strive to get it right the second time)... While they did get it right in the end it took over 4 weeks to get that one order corrected...

I think svcity.com is different enough from svc that it's not really infringing on a copyright (you can't copyright your list of products)... Their layout is a LITTLE similar but very different imo (uness you say showing products on the front page and having links to different categories of products is a ripoff when in reality it's just a basic way of setting up a site)... The only thing that I could remotely see as an infringement is that they are using some of the products where SVC was the only company to sell before (like stated above).. but even then they could have contacted the manufacturer (anyone who thinks that an electronics store actually produces their own products doesn't know that much about how stores work) in which case it shouldn't be a violation of SVC's copyright..

It's really an iffy case but imo I think they are fine and may try to order something from them...

Now stealing the email list, that is a violation, but not of copyright...

And as for blade saying we shouldn't buy from them, I hate when people twist the truth to serve their own purpose.. SVC gives you $ so you try to help them out... Just pisses me off... This is America, if you can create a competitive business then go for it!
