svc aluminum global win slim pc micro atx case $19.99 + shipping

Silicon Valley Compucycle has a nice looking HTPC Case (Globalwin YCC-S27) on Clearance for $20.00. In state shipping for me was $8 and tax took it to $30.

I'd been wanting to buy the NSK2400, but this case looks to be a decent substitute. It only comes with a 200W PSU of suprious quality, but I think I can find a decent substitute given the $70 budget savings. Power supply is SFX form factor... I don't know if that is the same as mATX or not.

anyone have this case to confirm if a regular vc can be used?

nm:

The YYC-S27 can fit a flex ATX, or a micro ATX motherboard. As mentioned earlier, only half height expansion cards can be used so a motherboard with all the key components integrated (video, sound, LAN ?) is highly recommended.

Just a caution, this appears to be a shorty case that would not hold regular height video cards. Otherwise looks like a nice case and a fantastic price.

what could one power with a 200W PS? i have a Pentium D 915 that i'd like to couple with a decent audio/video integrated MB along with a DVDRW and a single HD. would the 200W PS have any problems powering this system?

That's true, would need half-height brackets. I'm expecting to put a powerful mATX motherboard and use integrated video/sound.... just buying because this case matches my equipment perfectly. I'm sure one of these motherboard vendors is going to be smart and put the SPDIF out on the back panel rather than require a bracket. I think current mATX integrated video can do 1080i, just not 1080p.

i think a 200 watt like that could probably power a dual core e2160 pretty easily. i have powera pentium D 820 on something like that, but with nothing else attached and all integrated video.

i think for htpc use, you'd probably be best off pairing this with something like an amd 690g or nvidia 7050 and a amd x2 3600 or something like that.

I have one unopened. I figure it's a good deal and can change out the PSU in the future if needed. I figure this type of case is going to be handy in the future due to the increased power of integrated video/audio, and can probably get a decent PSU also. I'd prolly be a good idea for me to open up the box anyway, I'll do that tonight. I don't have any spare mATX motherboards around...

Just opened mine up and took a look at it. I'd recommend looking at the Mad Shrimps review. The hardest part about this thing is cracking it open. You have to pull the front cover forward away from the frame. I think this is a problem in similar cases (In-Win BT611) I didn't realize how small these things are to work in. PSU is an enhance ENP-2220A power supply. As stated before, the pci/agp brackets are half-height. There is a removable tray, to work on all the drives. There is room for a 3.5 floppy disk (I assume you could put a second HD there if you needed), a 3.5 HDD, (under the floppy bay) and a DVD/CD Rom bay (adjacent to floppy drive area). The DVD drive would have to be screwed from the bottom. A bag of standoffs and screws was included, as well as a paper with the USB pin outs (there are 2 front USB ports, spec stated 2.0) and audio pin outs (for mic and headphone jack in the front).

One worry I had was there is plenty of venting holes on the side, but none on the top. Additionally you'd need a low-profile cooler maybe? Again, I'm not a professional, I bought this based on reviews from the web and the price seemed too hot to miss.

As far as the footprint goes. I have a Panasonic receiver XR-55, and it's a little slimmer, but not much than that receiver. DVD player (Phillips DVP5960) is a lot smaller and shorter than this case. I don't think it's a bad purchase for $30 for a desktop case, that can also be converted to a slim-tower case.

Link to Enhance

10A on +12v, which is normal for a decent 200W PSU. Enhance is a decent brand so this should be able to put out every last one of the 10A. The expansion slots are half height and the fastest video card I've found that can be shoehorned into that spot is a 7600GS.

MSI 7600GS with HDMI but will need modding to fit.

Leadtek 7600GS with a better HSF than the MSI and can use this low profile bracket kit to fit.

It may be possible to run one of these cards and a low voltage CPU like one of those mystical 35W A64 x2 chips (or undervolt a 65W chip) using the stock PSU.

I ordered one of these cases for myself.

Thing looks tiny. Like my btx hp 5700. I didn't think a mATX could be as small as this unit looks. My HP also needs the 1/2 ht brackets. Funny thing is it can take a full ht card fine if I remove the std bracket. So why these stupid 1/2 ht brackets? And where do you get them?

The Egg has several SFX12V PSU's which look compatible; one is a Sparkle 350W, the others are in the 200's. Few have User Reviews, but one did write that SFX PSU's come in different lengths which could present a problem in a tight case.

A shame they built in a floppy-committed bezel as I've no use for floppies, but might have considered an external 3.5 for some other use. At least they seem to obscure the floppy bezel with a smoked cover. 🙂

This case probably won't let you use full size cards. They use "low profile" (not quite half-height) brackets to make the case slimmer. Some expansion cards come with the required bracket and some comes with both regular and low profile. If the card is low profile but only comes with a regular bracket, some can be modded to fit. With some video cards you can buy a low profile kit such as the one I linked to right above your post.

SFX size is not compatible with this one. This uses a PSU with 58x81mm rear, while the SFX size is around 125x64mm.

This 300W Fortron would actually be better than the 350W Sparkle you were thinking of (neither of which will fit in this case). They are both made by FSP Group, but they both have the same combined +12v cap of around 22A. The Sparkle gets higher "wattage" because of more amperage on the 3.3v and 5v rails, not on the +12v. Also, it uses 60mm fans and is known to be noisy while the Fortron uses a slimline 80mm fan and is reasonably quiet. Additionally the Fortron is cheaper by $4 and comes with an adaptor to use it in a regular case (not that anyone will use it that way). Though they both come out of the same factory and are both reasonable quality, Fortron version FTW.

And yes I do own one of each. 😉

how the hell do you open this thing? i've been pushing and pulling and doing all sorts of things to the top lid, but it's not moving. i really don't wanna break it.

do you slide the top towards the back of the case, or the front of the case? if the front, how do you remove the faceplate?

Installation

Naturally the first step is to "open" the case. This proved to be not an easy task as I thought .......

After unscrewing the two screws in the rear, the cover "should" normally come off, not in this case. After a lot of trying and testing I wasn't able to remove it. Time for some brute force! Finally the cover came off.

# There was no manual supplied with this review sample. Glabal Win assures me that manual does come with every retail package. Accordingly, you need to the slide the top cover a bit forward and then it would come off, including the front panel.

# Due to the tight fit, I had to exert more pressure for the top cover to get loose from the frame. Thanks guys, I was talking to myself afterward.

I did not get hurt physically and nothing was damaged except my ego was a little dented.

Once the case is opened, I found a "tower stand" inside:

thanks, but these instructions don't seem to help.

i assume you slide the cover towards the front panel. unfortunately, that panel seems to be locked in place. i'm worried that i'l break it if i force it. i tried sliding a slow screw driver between the faceplate and the case, but the fit is so tight that in most places the screw driver isn't able to slide through.

EDIT

alright i got it. it is a bit tricky. you need to be more rough than one would think to crack it open.

I got mine in today, no manual 🙁

In the process of trying to figure out how the heck I'm supposed to open this thing up now based on the comments above.

On the back (where the keyboard/mouse/usb plugs go), there are two screws. You unscrew that. Once done, you hold the two sides, and pull REALLY hard (two people helps😉). I mean really hard. The front of the case (with the power buttons..) is connected to one side. Hope that helps lol.
