Here's an idea, if you don't like SUVs, DON'T BUY ONE!!!!

Oh, and when you pay the bills at my house, you can tell me what I can and can't drive.

Oh good another "I hate SUVs" thread. Has this dead horse not been completely pulverized due to the copious amounts of beating?

Race a Ferrari, Porsche? Hells yeah!

BMW, Lexus? Depends on if I can toast them. Usually not.

I guess you guys didn't see the locked thread on pro-choice or pro-life back about 4:00PM.

That is why this is here.

"The engineers who designed those SUVs must have not gotten A on their General Physics 101 course!"

I shouldn't even dignify this thread by posting, but I'm going to dive right in here. :) If anyone needs a physics lesson it is yourself. There is no way you can build an SUV and not have it have a higher chance of flipping. The engineers can not rewrite the laws of motion. Any vehicle that rides so high will definitely have a greater chance of rollover than a standard sedan. However, SUVs that do roll are mostly because of drivers who do not understand this fact.

I hate SUV's... they are just status symbols and the people that drive them should be shot.

I don't agree. They are made for a particular purpose, and they serve it well. I don't think I'll own one anytime soon, but that's because the SUV's purpose is not suited to my needs. For some people, buying an SUV is a very logical and intelligent decision.

They may flip over easier, but at the same time, they're safer in many types of accidents. Either way, I love having an SUV! :)

lol all those people living in long Island do they really need a SUV when their hasn't been any dirt roads their for like the last 30 years? SUV are a pain in the ass when you pull up next to one making a left hand turn you can't see.

SUV's ARE NEVER SAFER THAN CARS!!! A volvo will always be safer than a Chevy Tahoe! If you crash into a tree in a Volvo you will be safer in the Volvo than any SUV!

BMW X5. Safest vehicle ever tested by the IIHS. The insurance institute hates giving vehicles good ratings. Picking mine up Wednesday.

SUV's are just an excuse for people who need a station wagon to actually buy one.
That been said. Who cares. Yeah there is a risk of rollover. But it has been disclosed, so people buying SUV's now have that in mind. If they still buy one, they must be OK with it. Not that I would buy one. I thought the whole point of paying taxes to build roads is so that we wouldn't have to go offroad.

no offense, but people who drive SUVs are idiots. they get this air of invulnerability and think that they don't have to obey traffic rules. rushhour here in LA just blows. man, it seems like the bigger the car, the dumber the driver. sheesh...

Oh yeah, not offensive at all WimpyBoy :)

Some people think that, of course. Those people shouldn't be driving anything. And rush hour in L.A. probably has more to do with that fact that it is L.A., and hence California, more than it was people driving SUVs.

You may want to shoot us, we all wish you would just jump already.

TuffGuy:
Some of us call off-roading recreation. Perhaps you've ridden a bike before even though we built cars so you dont have to pedal. Similar concept. Neat 'eh?

Jonathan59 (I think it was you at least hehe):
Why do you say the Volvo will always be safer than the SUV? I think I could come up with some instances when that isn't the case......

first off, i can out-drive 99% of you out there. people changing lanes without signalling and without checking to see if there's some already there is just plain stupid. like i said, the bigger the car, the dumber the driver.

and to the off-roading smart-ass: how often do you go off-road downtown or around ucla?

step off. being able to drive is one thing. not paying attention while driving is another. too claim otherwise is plain stupid. and like i said before, the bigger the suv, the greater the sense of security. the greater sense of security generally results in a lack of attention, since people feel so "safe".

i invite anyone who claims otherwise for a ride in my 2000 eclipse gt.

well said:

Don't blame the car design when it's the nuts behind the wheel, too busy yacking on the cell phone while eating a chalupa to pay attention to their driving.

Ahhhh nevermind I can see my arguement with Al Unser isn't going to go anywhere quickly. Reminds me of the people who call "I've been a MCSE for years and have an A+!"

My suv is quite small actually, 83" wheelbase. I'd say that makes it more likely to roll than an explorer even! Still haven't rolled it. The thing is older than me too. Its really went quite a while without rolling I guess.

How would I off-road around UCLA? Not living around ucla helps alot there with my concerns. Besides lots of people autocross or drag race on the weekends, yet drive their car around every day. How is that different than a suv being used as a daily driver then the trail beast on the weekend? :)

btw: i do agree that the problem is the drivers fault, just don't try to blame the vehicle, tall vehicles are just so much less forgiving to dumb drivers, thats why i cant get a car with anything but understeer new today ;)

i never blamed the vehicle. as a matter of fact my favority SUV is the tahoe. although the new BMW is slowly winning me over. my initial comment was "it seems like the bigger the car, the dumber the driver". some people were not meant to drive SUVs. granted, it the only car that they won't kill themselves in, but what about everybody else on the road?

i personally prefer the irvine raceway, ever since my friend rolled his isuzu rodeo... and i was in the car with him.

sigh, I'm not sure who's more of a lemming, the poeple who drive SUV's, or the people who bash them :(

/me thinks that those who have never have driven have no room to speak. But then again that's just my opinion.
