SUV's get a bad rap!

those cars are big for a purpose though. SUVs driven by one person which happens a lot, are not big for any reasonother than being big. If you drive a normal car, it really sucks, to be near SUVs.

that's really retarded logic. environmentalists want to protect the earth, they don't advocate the use of alternative fuels just for the sake of them. if we run out of oil, we'll have done the exact damage that the environmentalists are against.

Check the EPA rating for the big Lexus and BMW sedans, they will not be nearly as miserly on fuel consumption, and still dont have the cargo capacity of a SUV.

yea, they're about equal for fuel economy, but they beat out suv's in emissions by a lot.

Todays emissions standards are so strict that todays dirtiest car is 10 times cleaner than the cleanest car of 15 years ago. The actual toxic emissions of any production car sold for consumer use has basically become a non-issue.

These are all special purpose vehicles that need to be that big to perform their function. They are a small minority of vehicles on the road.
And they do block field of vision to all drivers just like SUVs do. Would you like it if every other car on the street was a UPS truck? Think about it, and you will know just how I feel about SUVs.
But these vehicles you mentioned are a necessary evil. As are minivans for people who have lots of kids. I would have no problem per se with soccer moms using SUVs instead of minivans. Or even people in rural areas with poor roads of weather driving SUV's. Or people who haul their boats on weekends. The problem is that people who otherwise would be buying cars are buying SUVs. Single drivers who use them for daily commute on normal roads and nothing else. Because of the unnecessarily increased numbers of these SUV's it becomes a visibility issue more and more often.
I am not saying if someone should or should not buy an SUV, and I don't want to ban SUV's, but it is inconsiderate to other drivers to drive one unless you really need one, IMHO. That is one factor to consider when buying one of these. Also, please don't park your SUV at a space right before a driveway. It makes it impossible to see oncoming traffic when turning onto a street. It is a serious safety issue. Other than that, I can pretty much deal with the visibility issue by either passing the truck or switching lanes.

so, if you see a single woman driving around in an SUV and get mad, what's to say that she doesn't have a boat that she uses on weekends? Take all the utility away from them, maybe people GASP like to drive them? Maybe they like to be in a larger vehicle, higher off the road, and with better protection.

Non issue? at 100% combustion efficency, an engine outputs nothing but CO2. It's not toxic, no.. but millions of tons of it into the atmosphere a year isn't exactly desirable.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I drive an SUV and I cant see around the damn things either. All the more reason to get a bigger better one

That being said, I do drive mine courteously, if there is me and another car pulling out of like the grocery store, I dont pull up next to them so they cant see, I pull to their blind spot, since I can see over them allowing them to see both directions, and I can do the same. Its more about common courtesy ( dont get me started on that) than about the complete evil nature of SUVs to start with. ANd even more about the competence of the driver than the vehicle they choose to navigate haphazardly about suburban streets.

If I had a need for one, I would certainly get one. I think I would rather have a nice Toyota pickup, for utilitarian purposes, though. I just don't agree with a trend towards bigger, heavier, less fuel efficent transportation, is all.. lol..

Sometimes things we like are inconsiderate to others. Again, like I said, if it wasn't for my personal safety and visibility problems, I wouldn't mind the SUV's. I think people have a perfect right to do what they like as long as it doesn't doesn't effect me negatively. There is nothing illegal in being an inconsiderate to others, but people are just not going to like you very much. So don't come here all suprised that all these people don't like SUV's.

i totally agree, i think the reason why most people hate suvs and luxury cars is because of the drivers, not necessarily the car itself.

If I remember my High School biology correctly, isnt CO2 exactly the same gas that billions of humans expel into the atmosphere each and every moment?
