he should build a clock then he will get a white house invite, the hero that saved lives in the Oregon shooting still hasn't gotten an invite, just a phone call

Misleading title.

He wasn't suspended for wearing a patriotic shirt, he was suspended for refusing to change out of a shirt that has a gun on it.

Even when I was in HS in the 90's, you couldn't have a gun on your shirt, regardless of context

That'll teach that kid a lesson or two. And to show that he learned his lesson, next time he goes to class he should wear nothing at all.

Back a long time ago I was suspended for 3 days for wearing a Guns N' Roses T-shirt to school.

I shit you not but the note said something about not following dress code. All my parents said was don't wear that stuff to school.

The whole shirt thing is just something that pops up these days.

Nothing really new to see on those, yeah it's been going on decades.

Someone even did the patriot BS thing with a rifle not too long ago, it a tribute to someone my fathers brothers uncle knew or something along those lines.

I remember joking with a guy at work one time that Axel was pretty much the male version of Ethel Merman.

He couldn't get it out of his head after that and a few days later came up and said "You're Right"

Maybe a bit of a Rose tie in there to begin with :p

Oregon eighth-grader suspended from school for wearing patriotic shirt showing gun

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...hool-for-wearing-patriotic-shirt-showing-gun/

Meanwhile, the San Diego Chargers are currently on TV dressed like ISIS terroists. (And what are they supposedly "charging" with - strap on bombs?)

Get over it. 30 years ago when I was in 8th grade we couldn't wear any shirts with guns on it either. Surely you know the difference between a schools dress code and the Chargers... Right???

Have some integrity and fix your title.

i remember there being an issue with skull t-shirts and jewelry at my school 20 years ago.

that's lamer than banning a shirt with a gun.

I don't remember any dress restrictions from 30 years ago.

Nor do I. And the kid is getting a lesson better than anything he'd learn in school - that public schools are run by myopic and overly legalistic idiots, and that between the bloated and stupid administration and incompetents-protecting Teachers Unions that public schools are a fucking swamp of wasted taxpayer funds and mediocrity.

Just because it has a flag on it doesn't make it appropriate for every occasion. Could a guy in the military wear that shirt while on duty (not in combat)?
Would you stop and talk to a salesperson with that shirt on?
Would you wear it to a wedding or job interview?

The school has rules it may be an overly sensitive rule but its important to learn the world does not revolve around you.

I remember a guy forced to turn this shirt inside out:

for those of you who "don't remember any dress restrictions from 30 years ago"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinker_v._Des_Moines_Independent_Community_School_District

i also guarantee that girls weren't allowed to wear overly sexualized clothing and guys weren't allowed to wear t-shirts with curse words 30 years ago.

I was thinking something similar earlier. I did know a guy who had to cover up some surf board wax tee that implied something naughty. I also remember a guy had to change because of a shirt that had an Amos & Andy kind of black guy slobbering over a slice of watermelon. I think I remember a girl we knew getting spoken to about the height of her heels, I think she wad told they were too noisy in the halls or something similar.

I imagine schools would make students turn this shirt inside out as well...

Wow :D

I remember a guy wearing a shirt that said "Phuket Thailand" and I thought it was a joke. Apparently that's a real place. The teachers must have known this because none of them forced him to turn the shit inside out.

Been there. And yes, the name is very appropriate.

And there is nothing wrong with that shirt. This is the same mindset that suspends kindergarteners for chewing a poptart in the shape of a gun. If you people think either is even a minute factor in shootings, I don't even know what to say.

Sometimes ridiculous, pointless rules NEED to be called out.
