Suspend hard drive via cable ties?

The drives are noisy in a $216 case? Cable ties can be quite rigid and even moreso the larger the size which would be required. I mean, you need some sufficiently long but still relatively thin and flexible or else the drive will not be very secure and/or require overtightenting and/or the vibration will easily transfer. Some elastic cloth material may be better or else keep the drive in a cage (thus maintaining stability and heat transfer) but remove it and place it on some insulation material on the bottom of the case. Perhaps check silentpcreview for whatever is currently de rigeure.

Check out the women's hair products section at your local drug store. They usually have some latex hair bands that are ideal for suspending drives. Good combination of stretch and strength, for noise-isolation without fear of material failure.

Hope this helps!

Try it and see. I have successfully used velcro to hold HDDs and at the same time, dampen vibration passing through metal to metal contact. I would suggest an added ground wire - you do lose that.

MaximumPC has an article in this months issue related to "do it yourself" tasks.
One of them was suspension of hard drives in the 5 1/4" spots in your case..

They used big, fat rubber bands that you buy at a craft store.

Good idea - and bungee cords would be even better and easier to use (less likely to rot and with hooks, a snap to install.)

And those that have seen military service may remember the little wtisted elastic blousing bands with hooks on both ends. They could be great for this!

yea cuz TT products are of poor quality and cooling =]
zip ties should work although i've never seen them done.. why not try shoelaces?

damn.. actually the shoelace thing is a good idea..

Get some strong boot strings
Buy some flexible rubber hose/tubing to run the boot string through..
Rubber hose will act as the dampening product.. while the boot laces provide your main mechanism of suspending the drives in their bays..
