Suspect Nazi Death Camp guard / dog trainer to be deported

Federal officials said Monday that they planned to deport an elderly German man living in Georgia who they said was a guard and dog trainer in Nazi death camps.

The document said Mr. Henss admitted in March in a sworn statement that he had worked for the SS at the Dachau and Buchenwald death camps, guarding forced labor details of prisoners at both camps while armed. The file charges that he used attack dogs to keep prisoners from escaping and that he trained other guards to use the dogs.

I understand the difficulty of dealing with these situations, but do we have to pursue the flunkies as well? Whats next? Delivered bread to guards? Granted training dogs in wartime does beget a certain expectation but sometimes it seems vindictive to go after some of these guys, some of which were probably scared shitless just being there and afraid to question anyone.

Wait a second....you are screaming from the mountaintops that all Latin illegals should be deported but you are feeling empathy for a Nazi death camp guard that is being given the same treatment?

Boy is your moral compass pointed in the wrong direction.

There is a huge difference, and I think even you realize that.

This guard was part of the military of the nation he was a citizen of. Doing his job which he was conscripted (or volunteered) for. No different than our troops in Iraq.

If some of our troops decided they didn't like the USA and moved to Canada and lived there for 60 some years, you would think its water under the bridge and leave the poor guy alone.

Just because he was part of the Nazi's (many boys from Germany in that era were nazi's btw, Hitler had a 90% approval rating, so he had many volunteers) doesn't mean anything.

Stop wasting time, they guys will be dead in 10 years or less. Lets stop the witch hunt.

Illegals are illegals, I don't want criminals in my country, obvious people who don't follow rules, do things by the book, and obviously couldn't make it in their own country. Why would I want them here? I'd take a Nazi over and Illegal any day of the week if I had a choice.

you guys are missing the point... this nazi isn't a mexican.

i hope that cleared things up for you

This is a tough case...

The guy was a Nazi, bad.
That was also 60+ years ago.

What happens to him when he gets to Germany? They going to put him on trial?
Do we lock him up for the rest of his life?

I am not sure what we accomplish by doing any of the above.

RightIsWrong: find me a 85 year old mexican who has been living in the country illegally for 50+ years and then we can make an accurate comparison.

Signature Material right here.

Let me guess Mein Kampf is at the top of your reading list? Your favorite color of shirt is Brown? Adolf was just a misunderstood guy who disliked Jews?

Yup, yup, and yup.

If that makes you feel better. You tell me, whats the point of chasing down 85 year old men who were once part of the Nazi army? Whats their crime today? Anything? Do they still put Jews in ovens? Unlikely. If you ask any single one of them why they did the things they did, would the response be "Because I was ordered to..." just like any soldier from any country would say? Would you expect anything less? No.

Geez.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner! I can't even get mad at you because you're clearly special needs. Did the nice people let you play with the computer today? Who's a good boy, you are! LOL.

You're a Jew, so why is your response not expected?

I wish the scars of horror tortured Jews have had to live with all these years were as easily washed away as the contempt for those who committed those crimes seems to have abated here.

I'm actually an atheist, born to non-practicing jewish parents. I mean, yeah, the nazis would have thrown me in an oven despite the atheist thing, but I don't think we need to take a poll to see whether most people (even those without jewish blood - shock!) would rather have nazis or illegal mexicans in this country. Outside of 'bama, I've got a fairly good idea of the results.

I'm not Jewish and i agree with him.

It doesn't surprise me in the least though, i've seem so many Nazis on these forums who hate people just because of nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion.

It would scare me if you people were not so ignorant that you just don't matter.

Oh and why waste a plane ticket on this POS Nazi when a bullet costs a lot less.

The Nazis are here? On these boards?

Law is law, but our law system sucks. Really, an 85 year old man will not repeat what he did, so what is the point? The justice system should be corrective. It should punish based on reducing/removing recidivism. Punishing a guy of this age, regardless of his past, assuming he's on the up and up now, is merely vengeance. It serves no greater good whatsoever.

I hate to sound like moonbeam, but in part we hate people like this because it's easier than hating ourselves, because they are humans, like us. Most of the Germans who did horrific things were being good little citizens following along, just like everybody in history has been and will be. You think you wouldn't have done what many Nazis did if you were in their shoes back then, conscripted into an army and told to do God knows what? You would have said no, you'd rather die? I rather doubt it. We need to learn about ourselves if we hope to correct ourselves. Humans are easily led astray and easily made to do things they never thought they would. Some starving North Koreans have eaten their own children. Others have tortured and raped and gone back home after work to hang out with their kids and wife for the evening. We can all be so terrible.

Read up on National Socialism which is what Nazism stands for, the benefactors of your nations resources should be only people born and raised in your country is what it stands for, if you agree with that then you are a Nazist, making it impossible for a Mexican to legally immigrate into the US and then hating them for immigrating illegally is just a twist to be able to use them instead of providing an opportunity to legally immigrate which wold require the US to actually treat them like human beings.

You think this hasn't been carefully thought out?

I guess some people here miss a very important point. Unless the article forgot to mention this (or my eyes are more tired than usual), the guy was not in the military at the time. So he basically volunteered for training these dogs later used at the camp. Now the article also says he was himself involved in the guard duties at the camp.

Being a civilian he can't use the argument that he was "just following orders" many people in the wehrmacht used to deny responsibility. Now, if he only trained dog for the army, it wouldn't be in my opinion a big deal. Everybody was doing something for the army, because if you wanted to do something, it would have been at least partially for the war efforts. You should go after every baker whose bread was taken for the army, the farmers who raised horses the army later took etc etc...

But the fact that he, being just a civilian, was cool working at the camp... well, that's quite a different thing.

The SS was not the standard German army. You don't just 'become' a Navy SEAL, you have to try for it. The SS was similar to this, though the analogy is a bit rough.

I am a practicing orthodox Jew, just to clear anything up. I am torn.

Part of me wants to see this man deported. He was part of the SS, worked at a death camp, and no doubt treated prisoners horribly as they were rounded up and sent to the ovens. My feelings are strong on this matter, as my family lost members to the Nazis.

On the other hand, I have largely moved on. Even though the Holocaust is a massive part of the modern Jewish psyche, that doesn't mean I hate or dislike Germany/Austria/etc. I have traveled through Germany and spent a bit of time there, including Concentration Camps. I don't blame Germany as it exists today for the sins of its past - we all have made huge, terrible mistakes (I include Israel in this), and I certainly don't want to continue to rail on the past mistakes.

I wonder, does this man regret what he did? What are his thoughts? What has he done to give back to the communities of Jews, Blacks, Gays, etc. that he worked to destroy in his earlier life? I wouldn't be opposed to him staying if he could somehow prove that he took actions to remedy his earlier behavior.

On a lighter note, I think the solution is simple: this man should be subjected to the full force of a group of nagging Jewish women who constantly tell him what he should eat, how he should dress, and who make sure to point out all his faults. Then he'll have a taste of our personal hell 🙂

As far as I understand the article he wasn't part of the SS. He was a civilian working for them.

Wow you are a complete tool. Being in the SS isn't the same as being in the Army, they were not conscripted, they were volunteers and had to be fanatics to even be accepted. In the early parts of the war you also had to have a very specific genetic background to even be considered. I know for a fact that not all of the German Army were Nazi's this is well established, however everyone in the SS was, to the core, a complete fanatic. Comparing our troops to the SS just shows your complete lack of knowledge on the subject.

Gotta love your I  Nazi's while playing the Jew card for anyone who disagrees with you.

At least you admit you're an anti semite with only the loosest grasp upon history.

Ah, so a tad of genocide is ok if you promise you'll neverever do it again?

I disagree, for his crimes against humanity he deserves to be executed.

Following orders isn't an excuse either. If it was and i was ordered to execute your family, would you consider me innocent if i followed that order? I mean, i was lead astray and didn't realize that it was wrong and whatever other excuse you can think up.
