People that like sushi -whatever.
I just made it myself for the first time!!!
I even had the wasabi, soy sauce, and ginger. I'm so proud!
Basically I just used japanese rice, carrots, avacado, and a little cooked shrimp.
I pretty much tore the nori in half the first time I rolled it but I finally got it right.
It wasn't the best but it was pretty damn good for my first time esp considering I never really cook anything.

Some things I'll do differently next time:
I'll use a little less rice vinegar to season the rice. I'll maybe use come cucumber and probably no shrimp -it was a little weird.

What are some things that you like? Any suggestions? I'd probably stay away from raw fish... I love it at the sushi bars, but I'm afraid of the stuff that the local grocery stores sell.

bleh that's not sushi, those are rolls (well exception of steamed ebi)

avacado is the best for sushi. Try avacado, cumcumber and crab meat....mmmm california rolls

I've seen places online that sell vacuum sealed fish (sometimes cooked, sometimes not). How would that work out?
any thoughts?

Just went to a good sushi bar in the minneapolis area called Fuji-Ya last saturday. Good stuff, had some eel, fatty tuna, and salmon. Definitely high quality stuff - recommend everyone tries it at least once.

how do u make the sticky rice and how much vinegar do u add


sticky rice (japanese rice), it's not the same thing as normal white rice... be sure you actually buy sticky rice.
-but you cook about two cups UNCOOKED rice w/about 2 3/4 cups water.
-Bring to boil, lower heat to simmer, cover, cook for about 25 minutes or until water is pretty much absorbed.
-Remove from heat let stand 15 minutes(ish).
-------
For Rice in Sushi::

-Use approx 1/2 (maybe a little less) cup RICE Vinegar and maybe just a little suger (to cut vinegar taste) per 4 cups COOKED rice.
-Put rice in glass, plastic, or wooden bowl. (vinegar will react with metal)
-Slowely pour vinegar over a wooden or plastic spatula and onto rice. Try to get even distribution.
-Stir with spatula -using at a 45 degree angle so as not to crush or press rice grains.) It may help to fan the rice while stirring to help it cool.
-Finish cooling, fluff, and spread on nori.
