Love Sushi...hate the ginger. When I am finished I stare intently at the ginger and try to turn it into another salmon roll with mind powers

I put it on my sushi. I live in Seattle and I don't think I've seen people use it to cleanse their pallette.

I guess you and your fellow Seattle-ites didn't get the memo, but here it goes: Don't put the ginger on the sushi/sashimi.

I'm going to have to change the way I eat sushi then I guess. I've always just ploped a bit of it on top of the roll with some wasabi. I never can finish off the wasabi they give me. That stuff is soooo strong. But I love the sushi.

 to you for this thread not being a yagt

you are doing it the "correct" way. if you eat the ginger with the sushi all you will taste is ginger;it's a very strong flavor.

I usually put a piece in the soy sauce/wasabi mixture. Sometimes I'll eat a piece between sushi rolls to cleanse the palate also.

I never put it on my sushi though.

Apparently my Japanese friend didn't get the memo either.

You know what, you're onto a good idea. I'm gonna ask the guy from Japan how you're suppost to do it when I'm in my CIS class this afternoon, haha.

That's interesting because my Japanese friend did as well as my friend's father who happens to be a sushi chef.

However, in the end I don't freaking care how you eat it. As long as you enjoy it then that is all that matters. However, typically I personally feel that you should eat your food in the way the chef prepared it for you; if it was meant to be eaten with the ginger on top, then the chef would have placed it there to begin with.

too much ginger and/or wasabi would completely over power any of the other flavor combinations you should be enjoying on your 14 dollar yoshikazu blitzkrieg roll or your 9 dollar annointed with baby jesus urine yellow tail sashimi.

cleanse the pallet with the ginger and put the wsabi in the soy sauce. If i wanted to just eat wasabi and ginger flavors I'd save money and not order the 30+ dollars of exotic sushi.

I only eat the ginger after 2-3 rolls to prevent the dreaded "wasabi headache". The ginger subdues the wasabi.

You can eat it however you want. But your supposed to eat the ginger to cleanse the pallate, not as a garnish. but your also only supposed to drink sake before or after and not really with. but really who cares.

however i once saw a guy put the whole mound of sushi in his mouth at once. I thought he was going to throw up!, but his eyes just bulged and and he gulped it down. weird.

the fact remains that you can ask 20 people the proper way to eat sushi and you will get all kinds of different answers...so why not go with what gives you the most enjoyment...so how exactly am i an idiot for eating sushi which ever way makes the most sense to me?

wasnt saying you were an idiot for the way you eat sushi i was saying they you could buy someething like a ferrari and do something you want to it like put sugar in the gas tank. You'd be doing what you wanted but you'd be an idiot. that was my point. Also smearing feces on your sushi roll would also make you an idiot. these are just two extreme examples. carry on eating it how you like.
