SUSE problems

I tried to install SUSE 10 I got video problems. I doesn't even recognize my video card GeForce 6800GS. I tried to install 9.1 and it doesn't run at all. but WinXp runs just fine. What do yall think is the problem?

P.S. I'm going to try Ubuntu and Slackware today and tomorrow.

That's pretty weird. Suse 10.0 detected my 6800GS (pci-express) just fine. It gave it a vesa driver. How didn't it detect your driver? Did it just give you a command-line?

It gave me a vesa driver. I guess my card isn't the problem then. It says it a GeForce 0x00. And the majority of the files won't install.

What do you mean a majority of the files won't install? Do they get skipped or display error messages or what?

Oh and be glad, Ubuntu's x server just crashes as well as every other distro out there that I've tried (even suse 10.1!). There's only a few that don't mess up with my graphics card when just giving me a vesa driver would actually make me happy.

You can install nvidia's proprietary drivers for 3d acceleration btw.

I'm using Suse 9.3 with a Geforce 6800GS agp. I installed the nvidia patch for 3D acceleration using Yast's online update. Runs fine, can play games etc.

Are you using CD/DVD for installing the programs or an online source? Could be a bad CD/DVD or make sure your online sources are keyed in properly in yast --> Software --> Change Source of Installation.

I tried slackware. But when when the calder-DOS(i think that's it's name) starts it just freaking hangs there.

To get 3d acceleration and driver support, just apply the nvidia patch from YOU. It was just three clicks away..

Try to reinstall Suse and let me know what these error messages are. Oh and if you want to check your disc there should be an option for that when installing. It should like check media or something. Or just use the md5 sums text file inside the cd to check the validity.

And it just sits there after that. Even after half an hour.

md5sum crashes in Windows? I would say you have other problems then.

NVM. I got it to work now.

Well, you need to use an md5 hash checking utility on that number against the files inside the cd. A good open-source windows utility for this is MD5Summer. Make sure your linux cds check out.
