suse linux question

I am thinking of buying suse linux 9.0 when it comes out.
if I buy the personal version instead of the profesional version can I install RPM's from the pro version for it?

reason is SAMBA server doesn't come with the personal version.

Maybe, but I'll bet they will make SAMBA rpm's for your distro before long.

The trouble is that SuSE has a lot of propriatory stuff in it, that's there selling point. You get extra stuff from SuSE that you can't get from nobody else. It's annoying, but hey SuSE is a good distro and eventually open source will outpace and obsolete propriatory developement, so it's nothing to worry about. 🙂

So It's pretty iffy if you can just drop the PRO's samba stuff into your OS.

You probably won't get the SAMBA that's tightly integrated into the desktop like you can if you paid the premium for the Pro version, but you can get it non-the-less. With a little effort you can get it as nice as the Pro can.

Even if you have to compile it from source. But before long I'd bet that you can get Samba rpms that will work just fine.

i don't want to compile though.
I want to try suse out to see if nI will switch to using them in small biz servers instead of redhat and debian
