just installed 8.0 and i love it the only bad thing is that i have no 3D support so i can t play Chromium nor Tuxcart or any 3D accelerated game but the wierd thing is that i was able to use this feature in 7.3 i think it has to do with the new version of Xfree86 4.2 is there anyway to change the settings. i have tried to use yast2 as well as Sax and sax2 but sax gives me a garbled screen when i try to configure it and sax2 doesnt let me change the settings it tests fine but when i restart x it doesnt work and yast2 doesnt help it wont let me do anything ethier

video card is a ATI Moblitiy M3 AGP X2 its on a compaq laptop 1800T
any suggestions?

*Note* its the retail version so the dvd and CD's are good

Since you paid good money for the product, how about testing out their installation support? Let us know if they do a good job (or otherwise). :)

You can always manually edit the sax2-generated /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4)? file to enable 3D support. I recall another of your posts on this problem where you said SuSE 7.3 worked fine in this regard.

If possible, I would retain the working XF86Config file from the previous installation (which is probably wiped out by now, sorry). I think 3D acceleration lives in the DRI module.

I installed suse 8 and i manage to setup veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy easily:

printer - hp 720c - which no other distro finds cause needs some special drivers
webcam - usb creative webcam go - it did all by itself ( it takes more time in windows, about 2 restarts)
winTV hauppage pci - very easily :)
g3 ti 200 - 3D enable - 1280x1024 24bpp
modem - diamond 56k

I have installed more than 20 times different distos, slackware, redhat, old suse versions, BUT never had such an easy configuration & full support.

Setting up windows takes more time.

About the 3D staff... I had to go to nvidia get latest drivers, install them and then run YaST2 to reconfigure it.

Finally, LINUX became simple .............~! :)
