Gah, threads like this are starting to pop up all over the place. Yes, we know that we can subscribe for faster speeds. You don't need to keep posting it and sucking up to the mods.

My question is this........why should I pay to share the Hot Deals I find with you guys? I could just lurk and get Hot Deals. At what point does the posting of several hundred Hot Deals get you a discount or a recognition of value to the forums. If I pay can I get a guarantee of X number of Hot Deals posted per day? What is the incentive?

I already read the banner ads and give more clout to those who advertise here....surely there is more money to be had from advertisers than the college kids who are here looking for cheap computer equipment. Whatever.
 
Yea this is a repost...I've seen it sooo many times already (as well)....but I never subscribed until yesterday...


I figure...how much better can it be...i mean ...i'm already on DSL...right... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

I guess if u don't have a subscrition u're accessing these forums on a slow server/shared server ...whatever..but the point is it is SLOW...!

As soon as I paid 4 the subscripton....MAN it was like NIGHT & DAY..the forums...come up faster...none of this delay/slow server crap. Is it worth it for u to pay $2.50..I don't know....but it is worth it for me....since i frequent the forums 8-20x a day...and the speed makes a big difference...

I thought this was a HOT DEAL (yes it is a repost)...but I'm pretty sure there are alot of new lurkers on here or old lurkers that haven't taken the plunge and are wondering whether it is worth it to pay $2.50/month.....
 
Well, right about the time subscriptions began to be offered, I noticed the forum got painfully slow for us non-subscribers. I'm sure it's only a coincidence though.

Well, do you think the reason AT decided to go to a subscription service might be because they were losing money with the forums? Use your head. They took multiple cost-saving measures at the same time by lowering the bandwidth all the non-subscribers leech. You sound like you think it was some shady act.

No, it's not a coincidence and frankly I get tired of hearing this comment each time this thread comes up. Anandtech never hid the fact that they are trying to get more people to subscribe. It costs them money to run the forums and you're lucky that you can access the forums for free at all. It costs money, and lots of money, to run a site this big. Add on top of that the need for new hardware for new users and you've got a serious money pit. What do you want to bet that Mushkin, Crucial, and Googlegear.com don't touch the price of the forums? Short story: subscribe or don't complain about the speed. Or, go to f@twallet. That way the forums get faster for all of us. 😛
 
I have a better idea......I'll continue to lurk/leech here and at f@twallet and spend my money on Hot Deals!!! Better yet, why don't you donate a couple thousand dollars so that the vast majority of us who only visit here a few minutes (and do not subscribe) can have better access. Then those of you who sit here all day clicking refresh can act even more gosh darned almighty.
