I love Survivorman. I honestly can't even watch Bear's show. I don't see the point. It's no better than Fear Factor as far as I'm concerned.

I guess it's better for him, and it's good that he ends the show at high point rather than letting it die a slow death. I wish we could have had a few more seasons though :(

I was wondering if his band finally made it but I guess not. Oh well, didn't think it sounded that good, personally.

I can't stomach Bear's show. It's always full of made up shit it seems. The episode I called it quits on is when he's out west (I don't recall where specifically) and he decides he's gonna lasso a horse. A "wild" one at that. Well, as he proceeds to stalk the so called wild horse., I noticed that was the best looking and groomed wild horse...and the damn thing even had shoes on.
I would have laughed if it were wild, and for some odd reason allowed Bear to get close enough to cleave his skull in two.

That show is amazing, and Les Stroud even more so. He's more than proven that he kicks ass.

Edit: He's 47? Holy shit; I thought he was in his late 30's. I guess he's getting too old for this shit.

You try that 5 times a year in some downright miserable conditions - jungles, deserts, mountains, ect with no shelter, fresh water, or tools short of a leatherman at nearly 50 years of age and let me know if it takes toll on you.

Did they also have to find their own food, hike out of the area they were stranded in, and do all their own camerawork (which basically doubles the distance he has to cover per day)?

One of the great things about his show is that his survival techniques didn't always work. He's a likeable guy who put together a great show. I'll miss it.

Survivor man is a badass and if he says now is the time to quit, then I accept his decision. I'm not even aware of this Bear guy, does he do anything similiar to Les?

Yep. Unlike Bear, he didn't have a camera crew to help him out with stuff. It was interesting to see how his survival tactics weren't fool-proof. I remember the episode in Labrador where he didn't catch anything, so he was forced to eat the dogs' food.

No, Bear is a pussified wannabe that would die if his precious camera crew wasnt slipping him energy bars on the side.

Yeah, I remember one episode, in the Amazon I think, he kept drinking out of the river, then he remembered he had a can that he could use to boil the water.

And seriously, 47? I would have put him in his mid 30s.

:( Survivorman was one of my favorite shows.

Big fan of Bear Grylls, too. I will say that I've never seen Les kill a snake, skin it, urinate in the skin, then drink his own urine out of the snake skin nor would I want to. I about lost my dinner when Bear did it. That's so hardcore, I'm not sure anything will top it.

And that's why I can't stand Bear. It's all for shock and awe. Les at least showed practical ways that a person would get fresh water in all the areas he was in, how to ration, how to insure that it's safe (or to make it safe), etc.

After the gimmick of "What will Bear eat/drink next?!" loses its interest (after one episode for me), there's not much left. I think the biggest turnoff is that Bear shows considerable displeasure, and even winces, when he has to eat certain things. It's just like Fear Factor to me, a person doing something they are completely against just for the entertainment value.

blah.

That's exactly why I like Survivorman better. But Man vs. Wild is still great for the antics and scenery.
