Are we talking unlimited amounts of each? I'd guess you could, if you watch survivor (its ok, you can admit it ;)), thats basicly all they survive off of sometimes. They will get food reward challanges, but those are rare, and when they do get real food in their system, it comes right back out quickly.

If you could have a multivitiman each day, I'd say yes, bananas, rice, and water should sustain you.

I wouldn't expect to live on that diet for long periods of time, but in the short term (several months, maybe a year) you would be OK. It would be good if you could suppliment that diet with some protein. Also, it would be good if the rice was brown instead of white.

I think there are essential nutrients that you are going to miss out on if you keep that diet up for 5 years. Is this some sort of money-saving scheme? Could you take a daily multi-vitamin?

No, it would not be good to do it long term. You should watch Survivor this week if you don't normally. Those people have survived on rice, water, small amounts of fruit and fish for 30 some days now. Granted, they didn't have unlimited amounts, but its still not a good idea

what physical effects would happen? You cant base it off survivor because they are also outside in blistering heat 24/7 and dont regularly bathe with the essentials that we have here...

No, you would need to take something like a Centrum multivitamin on a daily basis. Bananas and rice don't contain all the nutrients your body needs. They just contain carbs. You need some protein in there, too. Could you throw in some milk and/or beans maybe a couple of times a week? Beans are really cheap.

These sorts of diets are always a bad idea. I knew someone who went on an all potato diet for several years. It ended up ruining his kidneys and he goes in for dialysis sessions twice a week. He needs a new kidney now.

Suck.

I never asked. He is a great guy. His family told me that his kidneys went bad after being on an all-potato diet for several years (3 to 5 if memory serves). Maybe the kidney failure and the all-potato diet have nothing to do with one another, but I'm thinking they do.

Marty-

It sounds like you want a specific answer, and are waiting until someone gives you said answer. I have a feeling that people don't think much of this idea. If you want to go on this diet, I would talk to a doctor first. If you don't do that, keep in mind that extreme diets like these have side effects. At the very least, your going to be missing out on vitamins, minerals, and protein. I can't say for sure what this will do to you, but whatever it does probably won't be good.

You are free to do what you want, but don't ask me for a kidney if you ruin yours by going on this diet for 5 years. I'll have no sympathy for you.
