intel started working on nehalem well before core was even announced. nehalem is going to be very good because intel was still running scared when it came out. westmere will probably be pretty good. After that, who knows? AMD is scared right now so they should have something good out in a couple of years.

I believe it was last quarter boughtt roughly 10% of AMD was bought by a Kuwaiti investment firm for only, what, perhaps 5-7 hundred million? If everyone in the US put 1 dollar forth we could buy roughly 5% of AMD :D So $20 per person and the people of the US could outright make a nice bid to buy AMD.

Jah, I fully expect Nehalem to kick arse. I know Intel began working on it long before they knew Core would dominate the market so utterly. It's not the performance I dread (this isn't going to be a bloated 'Tejas'), but the packaging and pricing -- all of which Intel decide now, with AMD virtually vanquished at their feet.

Low as AMD shares might be, buying the company for your own portfolio or for the people of America would likely be a pretty questionable investment.
