I am currently going through my Masters Degree and am in the process of doing a research project. That project revolves around the growing need for IT Professionals to have more business sense in the workplace. Sure, some of us just have to worry if the switch, router, server, or workstation is working or not. Apparently though, there is a growing number of businesses that want IT professionals to make good business decisions. Some examples could be using net present value, time value of money, putting project plans together, justifying the purchase of new solutions, and so on.

My research project revolves around this "business sense". Each survey is 5-7 questions long and will take just a couple minutes to complete. I am relying on more data that I am getting from interviews.

If you are one of the following, I would love to get your input in one of these surveys.

----

1. A student in any college or higher education institution that is getting their degree in an IT infrastructure field, and has plans to work in that field after graduation.

yep

IT people think in specs or cool factor. ROI wins the day

I think as you climb the ladder, this is true. Many college students and graduates may not see it that way. There may also not be enough support at the top when it comes to hiring. I am really excited about this project, but it goes far beyond what these small surveys are. I am just using the data that I get from these surveys to reinforce what I get from the interviews.
