This is just a survey I need to do for my group project
We are coming up with an idea of puting an accelerometer in sports equipment.
The main sport we're focusing on is hockey puck

Our product we are trying to build is called Flash puck. It will feel like an ordinary pack but with a small, low-cost, accelerometer and radio transmitter at its centre.
This allows the Flash Puck to calculate how much it is being
accelerated, and transmit that data to your PC. Your PC can take that
data and show you how hard you hit the puck, how fast it is going, and
how far it has traveled. You can use the Flash Puck to measure your
performance on the ice by shooting and skating with the Flash Puck.


Please answer these 2 questions:
Are you an Hockey Fan? Are you willing to spend $2-5CAD more to get this product?

(we are looking for the demand for this project)

I would be really grateful if a lot of people help me.

I am a hockey fan, and i would love to see one of those, it'd be great to see in ball format (like baseballs') and roller hockey balls.

I want to figure out how fast i can hit. Also i am willing to spend 2-5 more on top of a puck to do it.
 
i heart hockey... sounds like an interesting idea... i havent played in years... so have no need for a puck...
im shure ameaturs would eat them up thou... scouts too... for stats and stuff...
 
Not a hockey fan, don't even play.

For $2-5 it is definitely worth the extra IMO for something that can help someone to improve their skills and knowledge of a hobby/sport that they enjoy.
 
if i loved hockey i think i would, sounds pretty cool, it would be really nice to practice with and what not, and for only 2-5 bucks more, sure
 
Not really a hockey fan, but I would definitely buy something like this, since I'm a geek.

Put one in a baseball, and you'd definitely sell boatloads of them here in the U.S.
 
Didn't they do this already when on TV you could see where the puck was when it was down by the boards and such? Had something in there so the camera could still show it even when normally you woudln't be able to see it?

I know they have baseballs already that have a little digital screen on them and when you throw it to someone and they catch it, it shows how fast it was going. However there's HUGE disclaimers on those that you aren't supposed to hit that ball with a bad because it'd shatter the internal components. It's just for playing catch or pitching, not for hitting.

I think they already have baseballs with little digital read outs for the speed of the pitch.

Ditto. And as long as it doesn't add any noticeable weight to it, it'd be neat.

BTW, how do you plan on packing transmitters into vulcanized rubber ? They are also frozen before games to cause less bounce... would it still work ?
 
they used to have something similar when i was a kid...

not digital or comp. based by any means, but still relatively accurate..as I recall they went for approx $4 per, but weren't really usable for playing, as they had an indent on the readout side...

If they went for approx 4-5 I think they'd be perfect for minor/junior hockey coaches VS expensive equipment like guns etc...

Plus it'd just be fun to "light'em up" and see how hard you can push it... 😀
