That being said, I do think that these people need to go digital. I'm going to find out why they havent yet. Perhaps its something to do with the courts? (Kind of like you cant use a digital camera to photograph a crime scene, only a 35mm.)

Wow, your ignorance is astounding to me. I'm not saying perfect quality, but they could certainly clear it up enough so it can be admitted into evidence into court. And no, I don't watch law and order (i see maybe 2 episodes a month, thats including reruns and old ones). I'm a law enforcemnent student. Unless you already have a CJ degree or are a lawyer, your knowledge of the subject will more than likely pale in comparison to mine. Now go back to your hole asshat.

I read on a "ghost-chaser" site that you should only use standard (non-digital) media to record ghost sitings because:

1. Digital is too easily faked to be reliable evidence,
2. Blowing up part of an analog image results in blurry but acceptable (and enhanceable) quality, but blowing up a digital image results in pixelicious crap.

Whether this applies to security cameras, I don't know. I think the already proffered explanation of equipment reliability and cost-effectiveness is the best one so far.

You're gonna have a very poor career in the law enforcement field if you have this much difficulty determining when someone's joking around. It was a shot at law and order. There have been many posts on this board about how poor the technical writing is in some instances (photo editing, email tracking, they even had an ip with a number greater than 255, etc etc).

Barring that, as an astrophysics major (read: optics) I know fairly well what the limits of imaging systems are (half of astronomy is designing optical equipment). There is no way you can overcome the limits of hardware with software.

Most of the law enforcement I will be doing is in person. In fact, all of it will be in person. I wont be responding to internet forums so my sarcasm or joke meter does not need to be on while im here. Besides, I catch enough sh!t from people about my major, so if I respond in the way that I did, dont take offense.
