Surround sound in Doom 3

When i try to enable surround sound inside of Doom3 I get a message that no surround speakers were detected. I have an Asus K8NE Deluxe mobo with Realtek ALC850 sound controller. I have the creative inspire 4.1 speakers.

FYI, the speakers have been configured for surround in windows settings.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
 
You need the 1.3 patch to enable some audio features, dunno if they have anything to do with surround tho.
 
...particullary on Soundblater cards. The Audigy2ZS Plat of mine wouldn't support surround for the longest time.
