Well they did have to get interrogated by congress. I mean there should be a dollar amount attached to that.

No real issue here. Transocean only leased the drilling rig to oil companies, like BP .. They are not liable for any misuse by BP engineers or drilling operators.

What can we as citizens do to make sure they don't pay a penny of taxes on these bonuses?

Have them switch to Democratic party and be elected to Congress?

Maybe chair the House Ways and Means Committee?

Get appointed by Obama to be Sec of Treasury?

:)

Transocean owned the Deepwater Horizon rig and its staff carried out most day-to-day operations, drawing criticism from investigators for missing key warning signs that the well was about to explode. Official reports spread the blame between BP, Transocean and Halliburton, who all deny being the most responsible party.

Obviously, they have so much excess profits to get rid of, they're having a hard time making up ways to split all up among themselves.:p

These bonuses were well deserved. I salute the Transocean executive team for outstanding work and for providing such a fine example that all corporations should strive to achieve. Well done!

(tbfh, the Transocean, BP, and Halliburton exec teams all deserve the firing squad.)

This is sickening. Especially w\ the newly found oil slicks in the Gulf.

And yes Kadarin. They deserve to die in a fire.

Actually this is a prime example showing how management controls a company, not the shareholders. At the height of the last oil "shortage" (mid-2008) Transocean's stock went up to about $160. Just before Deepwater Horizon it was in the low 90s but moving up-it then plunged to the low 40s and even now is only about $80.

A performance bonus is not given to those who lose half the companies value, at least in my view.

I would think with 11 dead and the loss of rig would be enough for them not to have a any safety related bonuses, regardless of how the rest their fleet performed.

Are you suggesting that these execs deserved bonuses for safety?

Are you suggesting that these execs deserved bonuses for safety?

I'm suggesting that it's none of my or your fucking business, and it literally has zero effect on you, unless you are a shareholder. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Unless you'd like to make a case as to why you think they should have run this by you for approval first? Please, I'm waiting.

Also, please list the executives by name, and describe the specific responsibilities they have for the company, and the specific basis for their bonuses in terms of accomplishments.

Ok... go ahead now.

Yes, people being given bonuses for safety when they have clearly failed at safety and have caused billions of dollars in damage and loss of life is none of our business.

Are you suggesting that these execs deserved bonuses for safety?

Are you suggesting these execs didnt make the matrix's set out for said bonus? Can you please provide us with the langue of their bonus structure to make sure they actually failed?

Or are you making a typical liberal emotional response based on limited information?

Did you pay their bonuses? No.

Does them getting a bonus or not change ANY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE? No.

Unless TransOcean is owned by the government, or you have stock in the company, their compensation has literally ZERO impact on you. Hence this argument is not rational, it is emotional.

Just admit that it is an emotional argument with no basis in rational thought, and I'll leave it at that.

SAN FRANCISCO (DOW JONES)--Google Inc. (GOOG) said Friday it had granted $8.9 million in bonuses and $50 million in equity to four senior executives for 2010, but the Web giant's co-founders and its chief executive didn't receive additional compensation.

In a regulatory filing Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Google said Chief Financial Officer Patrick Pichette received a $2.7 million bonus and equity valued at $15 million under the company's executive bonus plan in recognition of his contributions to Google's financial performance in 2010.

Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora received a $2.7 million bonus and an equity grant of $20 million, while Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research, got a $1.8 million bonus and equity valued at $10 million. Jonathan Rosenberg, senior vice president of product management, got a $1.7 million bonus and equity valued at $5 million.

CEO Eric Schmidt as well as co-founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin weren't awarded bonuses or equity awards under the executive bonus plan.
In January, Schmidt was awarded $100 million in stock and stock options after the company announced he would hand over the CEO reins to Page and move to the newly created position of executive chairman.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! $100 MILLION?!?!?!?!?

GUT WRENCHING! Nobody deserves that much money!

This is clearly MY business!

They are a private business can pay out bonuses and whatever else as they see fit. It's their money and it's only their (and their shareholdser) business; not ours.

An entirely seperate matter is any regulatory violation. That's the government's (and our's) business. It's up to the government to investigate and fine as appropriate. If they do get fines, as long as they pay I really don't care what they do with the rest of their money. It's their business.
