surpasshosting.com - one love sale

Looks good but after spending a few minutes on their forums I'm going to have to pass, looks like to many issues and lack of support for me to feel comfortable giving them my $1.

According to their forum they like to suspend accounts for days at a time without a reason or replying to e-mails though. I can't take that chance.

Not sure where you are seeing that. Surpasshosting has the largest forum community in the web hosting industry. Every web host will have to suspend some accounts for various reasons, generally very high resource usage; to avoid all other users on the server being affected, or violations against their tos (banned scripts, phish sites, etc).

I would say their forums look great, and are most likely a reflection of the type of business they run. Tons of promotions, giving back to their clients, they are curious to what their clients want from them; also their user testimonials look good compared to other hosts.

great deal imo

I just thought I'd bump this to say that they activated my account (even though it took a few days - I'm sure they're getting swamped with new account requests). I just set up my gallery there (really the only thing I need hosting for), and it's very fast. As far as I'm concerned, I've already gotten my dollar's worth. 😉

I'm fully aware that they've got to be massively overselling their capacity, may pack up and flee the country in the middle of the night, or whatever - but for a small personal site (like mine), it's more than adequate. Hell, I haven't even had hosting for my gallery for at least 2-3 months prior to this deal, so if they do disappear overnight, I'm not out more than a dollar (I make sure to keep current backups, of course). I'm sure you wouldn't want to run any kind of mission critical site with these people, but for $1 you shouldn't expect otherwise...

Edit: My gallery is at http://www.synthdude.com if anyone's interested in checking out the speed. Before you laugh at the pictures, keep in mind:

1) Yes, I am a nerd, I make no apologies for this. 😛
2) I've lost about 35-40 pounds since the most recent pictures of me in there.

I've used surpass hosting for years and recommend them to all my friends looking for a new host.

Their support has never been anything short of excellent and very responsive. The service is very reliable and priced great, I ordered the plan where you pay for a year upfront and it came out to a pretty nice deal.

Should I register my domain with them for $15.99 or is there a cheaper domain registration service that's easy?

Check out in Dartworth's Hosting forum... he recommends some. I paid $8.88.

Yahoo is offering domains for $1.99 again http://order.sbs.yahoo.com/ds/DomainSea...&m=dom&.src=sbs&.p=YD1&.promo=BESTDEAL

And if you don't mind a domain that nobody uses, you can get a .info domain for $.77 through Dotster using the coupon code: 77info

I signed up with Surpass a week and it has been down once, but for a buck you really can't expect much. These are shared servers and you'll be sharing bandwidth with a bunch of other $1 people, so you'd be foolish to host anything important on there. I'm just using them for simple image hosting, can't complain for the price.

My order came out to be $0.00 as well. I didn't complete the order until it is resolved.
I added the $15.99 domain in it as well, and it got deducted with the coupon also. But I am sure domain isn't included in the $1 package.

Anyone can confirm this?

I can now confirm this.

I received my account information earlier today from nobody@surpasshosting.com
It was hiding in my junk folder but I was able to log into my account just fine.

Paypal wasn't charged either, but if they charge me a buck, I won't be surprised.

It isn't. They give you an updated invoice with the domain charge included after. Though when I ordered, it came out to $1.00 the first time.

Well I didn't order a domain name.
Just the 1 dollar for year with domain already purchased.
Waaay cheaper than paying 15.99 for a domain through them.
I've had godaddy as my registrar for my domains and just renewed a few months back.

Is this even worth it, considering a domain costs $8/yr?

It's like buying a honda civic after owning a couple $400k cars, it just isn't worth it...
