Surgeons tell Rick Santorum that CPR is ineffective against gunshot wounds

Like DUH. What next, you get your head blown off by a bullet and the GOP suggests rubbing some dirt on it and walking it off? What are these morons thinking? It's almost like the GOP's hatred of science is on display here.

"As a surgeon, I’ve operated on gunshot victims who’ve had bullets tear through their intestines, cut through their spinal cord, and pulverize their kidneys and liver," tweeted surgeon and health care columnist Eugene Gu. "Rick Santorum telling kids to shut up and take CPR classes is simply unconscionable."

Rebecca Bell, a pediatric critical care physician in Vermont, tweeted that survival rates of trauma victims who require CPR at the scene of a shooting are "very, very low."

"Survival rate of people who don't get shot in the first place: much, much better, " Bell tweeted.

Trauma surgeon Joseph Sakran tweeted that he felt compelled to correct a "false perception" Santorum may have conveyed.

"Victims that go into cardiac arrest after #GunViolence are Bleeding to Death. CPR is NOT effective in this situation," Sakran tweeted.

The title of this thread is "Rick Santorum tells Parkland kids stop protesting to get people to do things for you and learn CPR to help your friends the next time they get shot."

Class guy

From the same political party that suggested women's bodies could prevent pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape."

Basically: modern Republicans love to trot out false scientific claims when they're defending an indefensible policy, such as their oppositions to abortion rights and stricter gun control laws.

Instead of fretting over North Korea nuking the US, Americans should learn basic Dentistry to help fallout victims. :Colbert:

How is Rick even a functioning adult, not to mention an elected official. I'm saddened both these items are reflective of my fellow country-persons.

I always wonder how much of this is intentional versus plain ignorance, much as Scott Pruitt plays stupid about the nature of CO2 emissions so that he can protect his friends at fossil fuel companies. Those who support Santorum's agenda either aren't bright enough to know he's wrong or don't care; those who are against him and know the truth don't currently have the control needed to counter him.

Either way, some of these clowns are voted into position.

I did like the "stop trying to get people to do things for you" comment. I was thinking "Of course they want people to do things for them. They want elected officials to do things for them. You know, because THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE ELECTED TO DO."

We are getting closer and closer to a point where gun control advocates will take a page out of the anti-abortion playbook and bombard these lawmakers with graphic images of GSWs and dead victims. Hell, they'll just camp outside of gun stores, shooting ranges and gun shows too. See how many customers show up with giant, bloody poster-size images.

Get ready for it, it's coming.

"Victims that go into cardiac arrest after #GunViolence are Bleeding to Death. CPR is NOT effective in this situation," Sakran tweeted."

Maybe Rick thinks that CPR results in some kind of suction effect to get the blood back in there and then close up the wound on its way back in?

Rick Santorum is a class A shatbag. He only proved it yet again.

Something everyone with half a brain knows. So at what point to we turn our criticism from the guy known to be an ass to the people that decided to give him a platform to spew his bile? I hope CNN is taking flak for this.

Just blow into the wound hole.

Heathen. Everyone knows you're supposed to pour some water on it from the cup of Christ.

I guess that makes it just as effective as thoughts and prayers.

CNN loves it. They put idiotic pundits like Santorum on their payroll, put him on the air where they know he will say stupid and controversial things, and then put "WATCH! - Santorum makes controversial statement" on the front page of their website. It's easier to report the 'news' when you make the news, apparently.

We all know Fox News is the worst, but CNN really is garbage too.

I'm basically turning into a BBC-only snob when it comes to TV news.
