surge protector

My Cyber Power UPS/Surge Protector died I think. It screeches randomly and restarts my computer, and like an idiot I didn't fill out the warranty info. I've had it for almost a year so maybe the warranty would have expired anyway. But my question is, what surge protection or UPS that I can get at my local Best Buy is the most secure choice? Thanks.

I have always been a fan of Tripp Lite surge protectors, as I've had mine for several months and everything works great. Plus, most of TL's surge protectors come with safety guards for the sockets you don't use, and the best part is they come in black, silver and black, white, and white and black! The perks are never ending....but seriously, I would recommend Tripp Lite, but its up to you.

I've bounced around, seem to be using Belkins right now. They have some models that will take a pretty serious jolt.

Although we have an APC UPS on my wife's business computer that has been very good. Have the PC, LCD display, router and cable modem plugged into it.

Belkin exists solely to help the big-box stores to make a profit (very high margin add-on sales) - buy their stuff at your own risk... APC, TrippLite, CyberPower in a pinch. Look for the proper UL labels and certifications (1339 or similar), etc. Also be aware that a lot of stuff with a big name on it is using the name under license - the big name company likely has NO responsibility regarding the actual product you buy. Some big names are very careful about who they license their name to (e.g IBM - you seldom find abject trash with the IBM name on it), others aren't so careful...
