...and holy crap it's fast!! :Q They weren't kidding! IE6 was acting up on me big time and I couldn't find a good link for the leaked SP1 for it, so I ended up giving this a try. I am very very impressed. With the new IE removal code with the latest Windows2000 SP3, I may very well just buy this and can IE. Well maybe not go so far as to uninstall IE, but nevertheless, this is sweet.

Opera + AnandTech Subscriber + T1 connection = clickity click click click through the entire forum! Incredible!

I have IE6, the latest version of Mozilla, and the latest version of Opera. I see NO advantages to using Opera. Oh well. :)

Why would one browser be faster than another browser?
Seems like the internet conenction would have more to do with it.

Opera BELOWS GOATS.

Internet Explorer is simply superior (on a stable, non-malfunctioning system like mine).

Opera is good. Lots of nice features (F12 comes to mind). My two biggest gripes are 1) it fails to render all sites properly (it's in IE world out there) and 2) it won't open requested pop-ups. It keeps getting better and soon it will just rock. :)

Mozilla's pop-up window management is better than Opera's.. Mozilla allows the browser to open requested windows, but not unrequested windows, whereas Opera will refuse all pop-ups. Also, I noticed Opera as having some memory issues on my system. Not that Mozilla's completely innocent either; if it's been idle for a while, sometimes it will hang the cpu.

I still prefer either to IE, however.

Same here. It uses a lot of GUI resources and tends to eventually run amuck with the OS, even XP.

Prove it :) Opera is a tabbed browsing environment which to all multi-window surfers I know is a feature you really grow to love, offers mouse gestures, and lots of cool other stuff. IE works just fine, but lack many of the useful features.

I can't alt-tab around. It looks like SHYTE with all it's ghey looking buttons (not simple like IE) and advertisements. It goes bye-bye.

Is there a way to manage pop-up windows within IE?

You can skin buttons in opera. Try the OrbitBlue series.

You can also view pages in "user" mode (and quickly toggle back to regular mode). This allows you to apply your own style sheet. I use to morph black backgrounds (which I absolutely, positively detest beyond my ability to convey) to white ones!

It has lots of great features. Only a few quirks left to fix and they'll have a real winner.

When we speak about Opera being 'fast', it's jut the speed at which it renders pages, etc... not the actual download speed.

Opera is ALMOST as fast as IE6, which is impressive because Opera was not made by MS, so people think Opera is really fast. Truth be told, it's really fast for a second-rate browser. It doesn't handle all javascript properly, it doesn't like backend NT4.0 authentication and it is not user-friendly.

It is, however, far less annoying than netscape 6.

The ONLY reason I know this is because I am FORCED to use these three browsers to test websites.

In reality, I only use IE6 when I have a choice.

Nope. I like my IE nice and simple. I have one single menu along the top of the window:
File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help |break| Back, Forward, Stop, Refresh, Home |break| Address Bar

I run 1600x1200

So, to me, Internet Explorer hardly exists at all. :)

i've been using Opera for about a year now. when i have to use IE, i feel totally lost without the tabs and mouse gestures. the only thing i EVER use IE for is checking my hotmail account - M$ writes hotmail so it won't work very well with anything else.

Who wants to alt-tab? I can ctl-tab between my browser windows and still alt-tab between my apps without having to go through 50 webpages that I have open......

it's called "quick preferences"...brings up a menu of the most commonly changed preferences...you can turn on/off pop-up suppression, enable/disable a number of things such as gif animation, javascript, and cookies, and set how you want opera to identify itself to websites (as opera, as mozilla, as IE, etc)
