which one would you guys recommend?
i dont know much about boards, i was wondering what the main differences are between them for the price differences?

I know almost nothing about surfing, but aren't longboards used for surfing the big waves at places like Waiamea and The Pipeline? As a beginner I think you need a smaller board to practice at the tamer beaches.

hmmm i thought that longboards are somewhat easier to get up on

Longer board is more stable. Easier to balance.
You can probably find a used board cheaper than these 3. I don't recommend spending $300-$400 when you've never even tried it.

Long board is good for learning on. Removable fins are so much easier to deal with, if and when you break a fin you will thank yourself they aren't glassed on. In California you should be able to find a deal on boards better than those, although the first one doesn't look to bad price wise. There are a lot of shapers in California so it might pay to shop around. It is hard to tell the differences between them by just reading, but a thicker board will provide more flotation and should be a little more stable, but also be heavier. The single skeg design will probably be much larger than the other fins, which will make it easier to break off, which might be a consideration.

Which area in CA do you live? Sauritch surfboards based in San Diego makes awesome boards at great prices. I purchased a custom 6'1" for $275 last year. The owner/shaper is really friendly and helpful. I'm sure he can find some used boards for sale also.

Where are you surfing? What are the conditions that you are surfing in? Are they heavy waves? Mild?

If it where me I would go with the 9'6. They are good boards, but I would look at buying them in person. The help you can get at a local surf shop is worth far more then what you can get here. I'm sure you can find a place that sells used boards for cheep. Or the local paper. Look around, also.... GOOGLE!

I've been surfing for 10 years now and I learned on a short board, but long boards are much easier to ride. I would recommend a foam long board... maybe 9'5 - 10'. Once you learn on that, you should be able to go to a shorter board. You should just get a cheap long board because you'll probably drop it and get dings in it.
