Surface Pro 4 or Surface 4

Which one is coming out first and when exactly ? Will there even be a Surface 4 ?

The Surface 3 was released one month ago. Almost certainly we'll see a Surface Pro 4 before we see a Surface 4.

Surface Pro 4 will be out end of July at the earliest to coincide with thr Windows 10 launch. It depends if Microsoft uses Intel's Broadwell chips or holds out for Skylake. There's rumours they might opt for Core M to build a completely fanless version.

The vanilla Surface 3 just came out. Don't expect an upgraded version anytime soon.

Pro 4 needs to get noticeably thinner before I can start to think of it as a tablet. Heck, it needs to lose the internal fan too.

I have a Pro 3. It's a nice, unique ultraportable, but it's a very poor tablet. But the hardware is only part of that. Android and iOS are much better suited to the tablet form factor than Windows IMHO.

I wonder if the Surface Pro 4 will keep the fan as it's the Pro model, with the Pro argle bargle features. But the Surface 4 (non-Pro) may get a Core M fanless. Healthy upgrade over the Atom in the current Surface 3, but keeps it thin and fanless.

I just want a dedicated graphics, and a better "type cover". Also, integrated LTE chip. Better battery life. Better cameras (cameras are god awful, reminds me of my first ever digital camera in VGA!) Hopefully Win 10 will fix all the bugs in Win 8 with the SP3 with the docking station. I'm Forced to restart the SP3 everytime I remove the dock because the icons get all messed up in size and scaling!!!!

Yes please. Make it a little thicker. Use that thickness for longer key throw. And don't worry about back-lighting or other silliness.

I don't know what Apple does for their keyboard, but it feels magical lol. It seriously feels pretty pristine when typing... makes the SP3 feel cheap (type cover). They needto make a base for the keyboard with a hinge so if you really want to use it on your lap, it can happen! Also the new TB3 would be good for eGPU's.

Which Apple? The Macbook Retina Pro? I had one of those and the keyboard wasn't anything special. Better than the Surface Type Cover, perhaps, but only because there is at least a little space between the keycaps to help us touch typists. On that point, beveling the edges of the caps on the Type Cover would be appreciated.

I'm hoping they make a 3rd model called the Surface M. Otherwise the next surface pro model is likely to use a Core M which means a potential step down in peformance. But I would want the fastest model possible that has no moving parts. If they go with the next generation 15W cpu, then it is going to end up having a fan, which kills resale value. I would be very interested in purchasing a used Core M surface, but would never buy a used surface if it has a fan, simply due to the fact that those things die after a few years. If it has no moving parts it will still be a good value in 2 years.

Surface 5 will be the perfect device because it will give Microsoft a chance to tune everything and offer the best performance with great mobility.

I agree with no moving parts will still be a good value in years to come!

The battery is more likely to go than the fan, but I get what you're saying. A fanless option would run silent and reduce weight. The Surface line in general are meaty tablets, especially when compared to the iPad Air.

It was mostly a joke. I rarely buy bleeding-edge tech except for cellphones. Was seriously considering an S3 128 till I got an offer to trade a Pro2 128 for my unlocked Note 4. Unlocked phones are worth more, but Pro2 128s still are going for around $600 used in good condition, and this one included the type cover. I was only asking 450 for my N4 w/two batts, batt cradle, glass screen protector and anti-shock case.

That's actually kinda surprising it's been a year. Surface Pro came out Feb 2013. Then Surface Pro 2 only 8 months later in October 2013. Then the Surface Pro 3 comes out another 8 months later in June 2014. This is the first time a year has actually gone by without a new Surface Pro.

Wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft is trying to do more with the Broadwell CPU release cycle, or just that the Pro 3 is good enough that there wasn't as much of a rush to update it.

If rumors about the Surface Pro 4 are correct, and the device is 4G capable, Microsoft would be wise to offer versions that can operate on other carriers such as Verizon Wireless, TMobile or Sprint.
