About freaking time.

You can bet I'll be calling the cable splicing tech first thing tomorrow morning while I'm at work.
I've already put his business card in the lab coat that I'll be wearing tomorrow.

I was hoping either you say your stimulus check
or SARS.

Hasn't come in yet.

Just my .02 here.............

Fios came to my neighborhood a year ago. I'm still with cable.

Reasons in order of importance:

1.) I run my main TV on a DVR but run 3 more TV's strictly off the line and FIOS' channel lineup only basic channels plus not much else. (If you want the same channels from FIOS you need a box for each TV)

2.) Watched neighbor get it & went to her house to test/retest speeds for her internet vs ours......(Time Warner upgraded speeds when Fios came to town)........and while she consistently got 2MB going upstream, her downstream never got higher than 8mb. (TW was/is 6/512 which is extremely fast, imho)

3.) Latency was no better than I have w/ my cable.......and because I'm just a daily browser latency is WAAAAY more important to me than 6 vs 8 downstream.

4.) Cable service has typically been good to me. No matter who's come out, they've done almost everything I've ever asked them to. All things being equal, Verizon would have to really push the envelope in service to prove better to me. (PLUS cable office is near me and I've been able to get new equipment at the drop of a hat whenever I've wanted just by bringing the old stuff down, showing my D/L and picking up new.) Not too shabby, imho.

Anyway......just my .02!

Honestly, this is actually a pretty high priority on my list. I'll pay a little extra if I have received consistently good customer service.

I wish :|

My area is monopolized by Comcast and Qwest.

Just fired Qwest (The copper kings) for Vonage and am now saving $60/month about to fire Comcast for DirecTV but have to keep Comcast for broadband :|

I've been pissed that the Howard Co people for years have had such luxury while we suffered at the hands of monopolized Comcast.

$52 for your lowest tiered broadband, Comcast? Give me a break.
Last price quote from Comcast was $52 for 6MB download(lowest tier available) as of Jan. 2007 when our trial expired.
I doubt they've reduced the price.

Fios is just a different format and is a hype right? Meaning my dad already gets full HD through Comcast but he's convinced VZFios would provide even BETTER quality pictures of the same channel.

I think that's ridiculous unless I'm in the dark. Can you verify?

I don't care about TV. Only internet.
We still use a 32" RCA black box here. At least the screen is flat.

Only channels I watch 99% of the time whenever I decide to watch TV(which is rare) are history channel, animal planet, national geographic, discover *.*, military channel, and Bloomberg.
If while flipping channels I happen to see The Cosby Show, Seinfeld, Family Guy, or some other classic that I enjoy, I just might sit down and watch.
Yes, I'm a boring guy in that I don't watch American Idol, or reality TV programs.

I also use Comcast on demand during the summer to view their "free" movie section.
That's how I saw some Alfred Hitchcock, John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, and many other old classic movies.

We will look at the prices...
We currently have Comcast cable basic, Verizon DSL, and Verizon land phone.
After changing to FiOS internet, if Verizon's TV will end up cheaper, we'll get it.

Why the hell did you reply to my post?

Its his thread shitbag, why don't you go back to making up bullshit threads and stop crapping in here?

HAHHAAHH how long have you been waiting to snipe? tool. Keep at it. We can do this forever. ;)

I believe it, dipshits like you who lie to impress people on the internet are pathetic. How is the University of Phoenix treating you today?

Took a long time to read this thread to find out where the OP was. That's the most important thing. Was hoping you were from Tucson :( - I really want it...I think. I don't know why but in a lot of online games I have one of the worst pings at the server even though it's only 80-100, lots of people have below 20 ping. What service do those people have I wonder. How much more does fios cost than cable? I'm paying $50 a month for crappy COX HSI (I complain but really it's not all that bad).

my parents have fios... I gotta say, I really hate the tv service and I don't notice any significant differences between my laptop on their network and my laptop on my network at my house (optimum w/ speed boost)

I really don't understand wth anyone would do with that much bandwidth. Maybe that's just me, though.

Get a few hundred gigs to backup remotely and you'll understand. Fast.

HDDs are cheap. Unless you're worried about theft or fire why would you opt for remote backup?

Well isn't the whole point of remote backup to guard against theft or fire? I suppose backup schemes all depend on how paranoid you are. If I only had a local drive for backup, I would be afraid of both my primary and backup drive failing at the same time, but then I'm paranoid ;)

Is there someplace where I can see Verizon's projected availability for areas around the country?

It does not matter. It could be in yoru city, but not in your neighborhood. Also, if you live in a condo, you are getting FIOS last.

They have put down all the stuff for FIOS in my builsing....except the fiber itself. The have already made the runs and everything....but no fiber has touched my building yet.

You live in a condo? I am in the same situation. Apparently, they have to go through your condo association to do everything, so they do condos last.

With the amount of restrictions I keep hearing about condos/HoA on ATOT, why do people even bother to choose them?
What exactly are the benefits of living in a condo?
I surely wouldn't buy a house in which I won't have full control.

I agree, they are a rip off. But you're not going to find a place around here without one unless you venture into the "ghetto" areas.

Exactly. Let them implement their bandwidth caps.

I live in the woods thirty five miles north of the closest city. I doubt I will be able to get it for years. All I can get from Verizon is local phone and satellite.
