I was just reading an email from gamespy and there they had a preview on an upcoming RTS later this year called Suprem Commander. I being the type that preffer RTS type gaming to any other this was good news. It seems that with this past E3 there was little exciting news about the rts genre except for a new star wars game that looks pretty good. Right so Supreme Commander looks like it picks up where the innovations of Total Annihilation stopped. For those who played TA and loved it, well here is something to look for in the upcoming future.

Also, this month's PC Gamer has a feature on a few dozen RTS games due in 2006. Haven't read it yet, but it looks like it should be a good year for RTS gamers.

It looks like the nuclear missile will be powerful. Actually power. Not like Red Alert "If I place it right I can blow up 3 whole buildings," but army destroying strength. This might be the game to get me back into RTS.

did anyone NOT like TA? i couldn't stand the fact that all the units are robots, and have no character. i like my marines from starcraft.. "jacked up and good to go!" and whatnot

Honestly the game Supreme Commander doesnt look that appealing to me. In the end its about gameplay but graphically its behind the times. Also what were they thinking?No one will be able to shorten it to SC!

Seems like some sort of combination of Generals and Dawn of War with its own twists and turns.

Generals realism with earth terrain and slightly futuristic units.

Dawn of War with its futuristic technology, amazing graphics and large divisions in unit types/sizes.

Supreme Commander introducing even larger units, maps, and features

From the screenshots, the graphics look almost identical to TA. The large units look pretty nice though.

The graphics did look a lot like TA, but I have no problem with that. TA was so cool becuase war was on such a larger scale than other games, but when it comes to pure strategy I am of the peronal opinion that starcraft had one of the best balances for 3 different races. This year is starting to look up a little for RTS, like earth 2160 looks pretty good too.

As much as I loved TA, I was hoping for a major graphical update. The original is 8 years old now.

My favorite map on TA was this massive 40x40 map with 4 metal islands. Battles literally took hours because we had to rely on ships and airplanes.

Looking back over the pictures from the preview I am impressed with some of them, especially those zoomed in on the action. There is one photo with all of the tanks that doesn't look so hot. But the detail on the individual tanks is very much improved, I would dare say that the graphics are probably up to par, but still have that TA feeling about them. I guess that we will have to wait for more screenshots and clips to judge it more accurately.
In one of the articles they talked about how the story line would be more enhanced with this game.

I'm buying this the day it comes out. Think it will run nice on an x800pro? The original TA was a beast of a game and required serious hardware (a 3D graphics card :Q).

TA is the best RTS of all time IMO.
