Mmmmm I'm not sure of this one I have a feeling it's going to be consolized and now it looks over the top cartoony action like Red Alert 3. We'll see and I hope this works out.
 
kind of sounds like what they did to the sequel of Total Annihilation

they're the same developers, right?
 
I was so underwhelmed by Supreme Commander 1. I got the game+expansion pack on d2d when it was $5 and still feel ripped off.

edit: I did like that they made an effort to add multi-monitor support. More games need to try that.

No idea how the hell that happened.

The preview sounds like they are taking a lot of the criticisms of SupCom to heart, improving the experience and playability but still keeping the heart of SupCom intact.
 
I'm still privately convinced all the "story" stuff is/was Squenix's doing, but that's me. And I'm still in for this come March, though admittedly the dinosaur thing and my Steam directory getting just that much bigger gives me pause...

I dunno. Gas Powered Games keeps jumping around publishers like they are sampling in a candy store. I personally don't even understand it.

And if it is Square Enix's encourage to add more story, I commend them. In RTS games, I enjoy story. Random, meaningless action feels so damn boring. Without a story, I feel no motivation to even play. Because I feel all I'm going to see is more of the same, battle after battle filled with maybe some new units, but that's it. No sense of need or urgency also hurts.
RTS games tend to be that way, and is half the reason I have trouble getting into them.
My boredom with most RTS games in general is what hurt my World in Conflict play time, never really got all that far. Really should get back into it, because in truth it's a fun game that offers a new style. And the story works amazingly imho.

Never really got anywhere in SupCom, got the game free with some hardware purchase (think my videocard...), so it was really a matter of installing it because I had a free copy. It looked nice though, and seemed to have some great RTS mechanics, so I might have to give this one a try, hopefully there is a demo.

I never liked Supreme Commander, I thought it was extremely bland, and on top of that Jeremy Soule's soundtrack for it was far from anything he had done for other games, as if he himself wasn't inspired by it as well... just my two cents but I just didn't liked it and I won't bother trying SP2's demo if there's one. I believe that Total Annihilation is still vastly superior to SP in many aspects despite its age.

Sounds great. I loved Supreme Commander and can't wait for SC2.

Yup sounds good, hope it retains the originals complexity whilest streamlining some of the more irritating parts about it. Dont think ill mind losing the T1 T2 T3 approach or the economy.
