Asus makes a pretty sweet motherboard that would be a great ZFS-based server, the M2N-LR. If one could pair it with a low-energy Brisbane core, specifically the BE-2350, that would be perfect for a ZFS server.
What I cannot determine is what specific CPUs the darn thing supports. Asus tech support over the phone says only the Opteron 1000 series of CPUs and Phenoms, but the manual says, "Socket AM2 for Athlon 64 X2, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Athlon 64 FX, AMD Sempron, AMD Opteron 64 X@ Processors".
Adding further to the confusion, is the fact that there reports on the net of it working with the BE-2350 cores. Specifically, here, here, and here for general Brisbane support.
Does anyone here have experience with the M2N-LR and non-opteron CPUs? Care to comment or hazard a guess on whether or not an M2N-LR motherboard and a BE-2350 CPU would behaver and function properly?
