Support your local restaurants

I just got back from a local Vientnamese restaurant and it was fantastic. It is a place that I have been before but often forget about. With the economy being what it is I realize that many of us are cutting back on unnecessary spending with eating out being pretty high on the list. I just want to put it out there that when you do decide to spend that little extra to eat out please remember your local places. Chiles, Red Lobster, Fridays, etc will get through this crunch better than those local places that we all forget about and love. If we forget about them we will all be forced to eat the processed crap that chain restaurants pass off as food. I for one could stand to see 10 Chilis go under rather than one local place.
Thanks

And pay cash if you can. Credit card fees actually affect small business owners.

No. Small business treat their employees like shit and short change the IRS on taxes by not reporting cash income. Fuck 'em.

Actually its the owners of small businesses like restaurants that need our support. Small business owners have been the least helped, most hurt by the economic situation.
I am a small business owner of a computer shop.
I provide far better service at a better price than places like Staples, Circuit City, Geek Squad, etc. I give back far more to my community in donated time and goods than the big chains.

So I agree that patronizing locally owned businesses is a good thing.
All you tend to get is uniformly mediocre services and value from the national chains. You may have to shop around to find the local businesses that will serve you best, but in the long run its worth it.

One of my cousins works for a Chinese restaurant, and he says the same thing. Avoid working for Asian restaurants own by Asian immigrants. More specifically, Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants. There are exceptions, of course.

Oh, please.

Of all the ridiculous statements you've posted here, I think this one cracks the top ten. And it isn't for lack of competition.

I guess that I should have mentioned other businesses...coffee houses, computer shops, etc. And if you think that a small business treats its employees poorly, by all means avoid them. The point that I was trying to make is that I don't want to eat at Chiles, get my car fixed at Minike, and have my computer serviced by Geek Squad. Does that make it clearer.

Fine, then get your car serviced by the Geek Squad, your computer serviced at Chiles, and eat dinner at Minike.
