Approval for same-sex marriage now at 55%.

But once again, the approval rate among conservatives is way, way out of step with that of the general population:

I suspect the Democrats and Independents that don't support same sex marriage do so for the same reason as the Conservatives that don't support it...................their religious beliefs. It's a known fact that many conservatives are religious.

Yeah and 8 Million people really signed up for Obamacare and are consistently paying the premiums every month.

Are you by chance interested in a bridge I could sell you?

How come Democrats haven't kicked the 26% of "bigots" who don't support same-sex marriage out of their party?

I mean if they think firing someone for opposing same-sex marriage(6 years ago) is reasonable. How can they justify associating in the same party with such reprehensible bigots?

Who the fuck thinks Democrats aren't religious? Carter was one of the most devoutly religious presidents in recent history. Just because a person isn't forcing their religious beliefs on someone else does not make them any less of a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, Buddhist, etc.

It's not that Democrats aren't religious. It's that those who aren't religious almost guaranteed will not be Republican. Most who aren't religious also have a serious problem with forcing religion onto others, and one of the main Republican policies is to try to eliminate all non-Christians from this country.

No, they support the right of people to do business with whom they choose. Some people believe in freedom more than you do, I guess.

Do you ever wonder if the avalanche of new support for marriage equality is in part the result of people making arguments as stupid as the ones you make? I mean I know if I walked into a room and one person was saying 'equal rights' and the other was saying 'I want to fuck a toaster' it would be hard to agree with the second guy no matter how much I opposed gay marriage.

I was wondering something similar. I'm surprised they permit anything less than 100% conformity in their zeal to enforce diversity.

It seems inevitable that the purification process the Repub party is putting itself through will lead to a party that looks like an amalgam of theological and oligarchic ideologies.

Those who believe as you do with respect to same-sex marriage are reprehensible bigots, but as a practical matter no political party that wants to remain relevant and viable can afford to have a litmus test on any one issue. So it's not at all surprising that the Republican party that's becoming narrower and narrower, with its members increasingly all sounding the same.

Diversity breeds new ideas. The Republican party has become the party of old ideas.

That in no way contradicts what I said.

You also failed to answer why liberals are fine with firing people for supporting same-sex marriage while they are apparently fine with having those same reprehensible bigots in their party?

Shouting "equal" rights isn't an argument.

Apparently liberal idea of arguing is to repeat falsehoods enough times until the other side gives in so they don't have to listen to you anymore.

But we aren't talking about mere disagreement.

We are talking about people who's views are so reprehensible that liberal literally called for a guy to be fired over them.

How can you stomach being associated with such reprehensible bigots?

Can you please provide a link to the statement of belief one has to sign to identify as a Democrat? Or where people are being kicked out of the party for having different beliefs?

They don't do that either in the GOP.

It is a true statement though that politicians who vow to "protect traditional marriage" will do better in the GOP than they will in the Democratic party.

Hey, thats great - thanks.

Tell me, what did Jesus say that was against homosexuality?? Oh, we've been over this already,.. nothing. There was no direction from Jesus to oppress and hate homosexuals. He did speak about love, acceptance and peace though.

So, it can't be religion,.. ergo,.. it's just pure hate.

If you oppose something and feel it is truly just, have the balls to at least be honest about it, instead of hiding behind a dark skinned, kinky haired Jew that showed up 2,014 years ago.

Now, this isn't directed at you, but, please don't feed us the line that it's a religious thing - because it is clearly not.

Face it, you've lost the argument. YOU would be kicked out of the Democratic party pronto because all of your views are so repulsive. But there's a big difference between someone who simply opposes same-sex marriage and someone who has an active homophobic agenda.

Not according to liberals.

Donate $500 to an anti-same-sex marriage group and they will come after you to get you fired from your job.

If someone classes their view as 'conservative' on the topic of SSM, the very definition of it would be "to keep things as they were", so no surprise there really.

I am just going by liberal actions against same-sex marriage opponents. Given how much they hate them they should be doing everything in their power to purge them from their political party.

You're welcome to your strawman liberals. I'm sure in your mind the actions of a few crazies represents the position of the entire party.

Try making your pathetic arguments to someone really, really stupid; maybe they'll believe you. Oh, wait, that's the entire Republican party.

Edit: On second thought, there's a big difference between those who simply oppose SSM and those who contribute $500 to an anti-SSM group. The latter pretty clearly have an active homophobic agenda. I heartily approve if they end up as marginalized in society as they want gays to be.

Lol. We had a 700+ post thread about those same "strawman" liberals getting the Mozilla CEO to resign.

Congrats on continuing the liberal "War on English"

I don't know, you tell me as I follow no religion. Most the religious people I know, no matter their political affiliation are opposed to same sex marriage.

Personally I would support my daughter should she decide to marry her girlfriend.

What a loser you are. In your mind, all liberals who poll "against" SSM are CEOs of high-profile corporations who actively participate in anti-gay groups. And "liberals" are all actively searching out these people to destroy their lives.

Is this your view of reality? Please provide us with the data on the millions, er, thousands, er, hundreds, er TENS of people who "liberals" are hounding from their jobs because of their views against SSM.

We have had at least 3 threads on the topic that I can think of

Obviously the best bang for your buck is to go after high profile people. To make it clear that engaging in counter revolutionary thought will not be tolerated.
