Aug. 13 ? Support for President Bush on Iraq appears to have stabilized after a precipitous drop earlier this summer, but three months after the end of major combat in the Persian Gulf region, the public is again sharply divided along partisan lines over the war and other key aspects of Bush?s presidency, according to a new Washington Post Poll.

Nothing new there. Unless there is another terror attack or a surging economy right before the next election it is going to be very close.

"On the federal budget, 76 percent of Democrats disapprove of Bush?s handling of the issue, while 71 percent of Republicans approve."

71% of Republicans support a 450 billion dollar deficit?

I think they've lost track of what it means to be republican. Or maybe republican is the new democrat? Geeze, it's hard to tell what the hell they're thinking anymore...

It's because they don't have any better idea for simulating the economy than by borrowing and spending.

RDTW, answer me this:

How can you support bush when the intellegence pushed by Dick Cheney on the need for invading Iraq was largely fraudulant? Take the case of the Iraq/Niger nuclear uranium 'yellow cake' claim that cheney said over and over again, is a direct proof of Iraq developing WMD. First off, Cheney sent in his own guys such as Wilson to verify the claims, and they all came back in negative, as teh whole thing was a farce. Then Cheney put it in Bushes SOTU address, and after Muhommal El Baderi of the UNs International Atomic Energy Association personally told Cheney that the cliam of yellow cake was false, cheney STILL told congress and the American People, as well as the UN 3 days before the illegal invasion that this is a serious threat, 'bulletproof' 'rock solid' and thus, we must invade Iraq right now.

Also, how do you feel about the fact that the fraud behind this war has been against the Constitution, the Nuremburg laws and Geneva convention, and international laws protecting human rights?

Bush feeds the hate, selfishness and insecurity he has. Why else would anyone support him? It's a sickness and I doubt most of them truly say how they feel but if you look close enough nothing is hidden.

I don't speak for all dems, but I think this is what Clinton's idea was, what Dean is saying, and I agree. The governmnent should balance its budget. It should not be necessary for government to borrow money and pump it into the economy in order for the economy to grow. The government should not crowd out private borrowing. The private sector should borrow money and invest it in growth, not the US government.
Republicans only have one solution for all economic problems: borrow money and pump it into the economy. Well that's not real economic growth, just like me charging $10K/year on my Amex card is not the same as me getting $10K/year raise, even though both pump the same $10K into my "economy."
It's very simple. The cost of the government should be passed on to the people, large or small, otherwise there is no incentive to control the growth of government. If the government spending grows, and that results in a tax cut, that basically tells the people there is no cost in growing the government. I believe that noone should be isolated from the cost of the government, and everyone should pay some taxes, and that their taxes should be higher if government spends more, and lower if government spends less, but not lower if governmnent spends more. Taxes should be a monotonically increasing function of government spending for everyone.
