When I thought my memory wasn't working so well, I purchased some Prevagen, experienced no improvement in acuity, and was told by a doctor that it was "probably a placebo". The bottom line: it's too expensive as a monthly outlay.
My dear departed Moms was a vitamin nut. At one time, when she hadn't begun to lose her mind, she would come at me daily with a small shot glass filled with capsules and pills for Vitamin C, Magnesium, Vitamins B and Vitamin D, etc. etc. etc. I endured this, but being objective about it -- she was such a sweetheart.
I've recently been advised (igor kavinsky) to take Cordyceps-M to improve lung function (I have COPD) and reduce my A1C. I believe that it has at least improved my lung function, because my daily 1-mile walks are becoming easy and pleasant. That's a "belief", however. I'm not sure how I can scientifically prove it. But Cordyceps is not expensive and not harmful -- offering some seven advantages including the two I've cited.
Here's something else: Glucosamine Chondroitin. I had occasionally tried this supplement, but it never seemed really necessary.
I've also reported in another thread, however, that I've started to experience arthritic symptoms, but particularly the painful "trigger finger" malady.
My physician gave me a cortisone shot last October, and it resolved the trigger-finger -- temporarily. Then -- it started to come back. And it was starting to become painful again, until a few weeks ago.
That marked a time when I had begun taking about two tablets of Glucosamine daily. It used to be the case that my trigger-finger was worse in the morning after waking up, getting better through the day with activity. But now, the trigger-finger has pretty much disappeared.
Was it the glucosamine? I cannot prove it scientifically, but what else would it be?
I also have tinnitus. Since I began taking the Glucosamine or not too long after, I thought my tinnitus had attenuated. This might make sense if tinnitus is related to arthritis as the latter would affect the parts of the inner ear. As with the trigger-finger, I cannot verify scientifically. It just seems that Glucosamine is helping me with these maladies.
At least the Glucosamine and the Cordyceps are affordable. I think I'm better off for the supplements.
