So rumor has it that Nvidia had to lower clock speeds to get good yields. AMD on the other hand is using their 'meh' chips in the 4870's and saving the 'good' chips for a 4870+ type card. Quite opposite sides of the spectrum they seem to be on. I would think that an RV770 core @ 950MHz would give a GTX280 all it could handle in the benchmarks.
You mean you don't ENJOY paying ~$500 for a 1 year old video card (like what happened with the 8800GTX's lifespan)?! You must be defective.
LoL but on a serious note... now we need AMD to make some good CPU's. If they ever get truly competitive with Intel, we can start seeing mid-high end CPU's in the ~$150 range once again. I'm happy to see mid-high end graphics cards at ~$200; I think that's fair.
