yeah thats it, set WinXP to have no swapfile

When you defragment the HDD you are also defragmenting the Page/swap File which leads to programs running more efficiantly.

I've never defraged a HD in my life and consistantly score higher than most systems same speed... personally I think it's a gimmick.

Maybe you are right, but way back before TCQ, DMA, NCQ a fragmented HDD was noticeably slower that a freshly defragmented HDD. But It may not be as relevant today as it was yesterday. May be you should try it seeing as you never do it. Maybe it could make a differance for you.

That's news to me... I always heard that the drafragmenter that comes with Windows isn't capable of defragmenting the swap file.

I think you are correct, I believe the default defragmenter that comes with windows is a stripped down version of Executive Software's Diskeeper. The full Blown Version will defragment a swap/page file and that is what I was thinking of.

It's not technically defragging the swap. It's removing the swap and defragging the space that the swap will use when it is re-activated. De facto it's the same, but you're right that Windows can't defrag the swap per se. Also, with today's 1+ GB ram systems, the swap is not used nearly as much. For crying out loud, I have 3 different systems using XP with only 256 MB and they don't even use the swap that much. Not to mention that a 7200 RPM drive with an 8 meg cache is a TON faster than the older drives. I have an 11 GB Deathstar that you can know by how long it takes whether or not it needed to use swap. My newer stuff, you can hardly tell.

guitardaddy: that pic cuts off the final time. cmon guys, i need a screenie of the "pi value output" time showing..that means you need to drag out the superpi window a bit before you run so it wont cut off the final time.
dnavarro just took first place by a landslide; nice job man!

okay thats it, im gona tweak some more at home then run again...my initial run was after i ran like every other benchmark...like 3dmark, sisandra, etc.

zakee00, I can only thank my DFI-Ultra D for the score. Pic one of these up boys, this board is for real.

On the exact same setup/equipment (Gigabyte SLI) I could only run a 275 1:1 front side bus (I can run 315 now!).
