Supermicro X10SAE 10 Beep Error COde

Hello all, just installed an X10SAE mobo into a custom built server with a Xeon processor and 16GB DDR3 ECC memory. I've disconnected everything from the board except power, ram and CPU and regardless I keep getting 3 instant beeps in a weird noise and then 10 beeps that are identical... Someone else asked about this on other sites a couple years ago... it went unanswered...

Anyone have any ideas what 10 beeps may mean? I've put the ram into different slots, double checked the ram install guide to make sure its plugged into the right slots and even swapped it out for non-ECC memory... It seems 4 beeps = bad memory, but I'm getting 10 beeps... I powered it up with 1 stick, 2 sticks, etc...

Board turns on just fine but I can never see an image on the screen / get machine to post...

Thoughts?

I am answering my own post in case someone else comes looking for an answer to the same question. The reason for a beep code of 10 short beeps is that there is no video card. I made the mistake of thinking because it had the Intel C226 chipset and video connectors that it didn’t need a CPU with graphic capability. I robbed a video card from a nearby PC and the beep code disappeared and the server booted normally. Perhaps they will put that beep code in the next revision of the on-line manual.

Try throwing in a Video Card, or using a Xeon with GPU (E3-1246V3). The X10SAE is branded for Workstation and not Server, it does not have IPMI support, which is the reason why the Server Motherboards favours the non-IGP Xeons since the chip that provides IPMI also has its own, minimalist Video Card. I'm not entirely sure if you can go true headless (No VGA at all).
Also, since the 1231V3 is Haswell Refresh, through theorically it SHOULD POST, it may be possible that it doesn't if it has an older BIOS. May want to try with a original Haswell in case the Video Card way doesn't work.

I hooked up a video card to the PCI-E and we are rocking and rollin!

Thanks man!! Now to swap out the CPU for one that can support the onboard video output! (like the one you recommended, yes, yes, just like the one you recommended... mmm... and it's on sale at Micro Center, w00t w00t! Guess what day it is? HUMP DAY)

I read that technically the 10 beep code is a "warning" and not a "fatal error", basically, it should do the beeps, then boot afterwards. You may want to try using the Video Card, configure a server application of some sort that is executed after Windows boots, or set up something that allows you to remote manage it, and checking if without the Video Card you still can get it working. Otherwise you will have to figure out what to do with your current Xeon.
