The basic hero archetype is pretty much Jesus. I haven't done my research to see if this is intentional or not.

pretty much started with Beowulf--which was conceived by a monk.

Uhh not really, jesus is a pacifist. When was the last time hollywood had a pacifist hero?

first that comes to mind is Atticus Finch. ...Tom Joad also comes to mind, but he did kill a man...or two.

He did ask Jonathan Kent why God made him the way he was, but then he was told he was an alien. After that I would think the literal aspects of religion would go out the window. I thought when he talked to the priest he simply wanted to talk to someone impartial. They didnt seem to know each other, and that was presumably in Smallville, so he wasn't a regular church goer.

Whats funny in the article is that they say Clark is non violent because he doesnt fight back. He doesnt fight back because if he hits someone in anger he would kill them. I think the only religious parallels between Superman and Christ is the messiah/savior aspect, but every religion has one of those. Its part of Superman's universal appeal.

I haven't seen the movie, but I think they're pulling the angle that "If God is real, then maybe Superman is real too."

Nah, they're definitely promoting christianity and not superman. Anyway, it's no big deal, and i understand that it's not superman's fault. I just wish that he could have had a little more secular influence growing up.:'(
