How about have engineers examine the building to see if the actual structure is damaged beyond repair?

Wait, what the hell am I thinking? The federal tit has been opened wide so they might as well suck for all they are worth.

New stadiums for all!!!

Phoenix is in need of a good team. Well, really, we're in need of any team that's at least decent. 😉

We've got ten billion dollars going to my home state that is currently ranked No. 3 in the US (MS is No. 1) for the number of indicted elected officials. The last mayor of New Orleans entire staff has been indicted with himself to quickly follow suit. I think the budget for the new superdome will be more like five billion and they'll simply paint the superdome black instead of white.

Meh - they should just bulldoze the whole place and make it Lake New Orleans. Why the hell are we rebuilding in the same below-sea-level-in-the-path-of-hurricanes-and-the-mississippi-god-forsaken place anyway?

yea, will probably need to rename that place the super-poop-dome. the toilet couldn't flush for 1 week for 10,000 people must've been hard to deal with.

C'mon.. for the most part, the outer structure is barely damaged.
At least, compared to a new stadium, repairs should be a minor fraction of the cost.
And, sh!it cleans up.
Same thing I was thinking about. Seriously it has to be cheaper to fix what is there. If it was to be torn down though, would they build a new one on the same site? This should actually be the least of the worries right now and low priority.

They probably want to demolish it due to

all the horrible things that occurred in there. Imagine trying to enjoy a ball game in a stadium where many people died in hellish circumstances.

People will start rumors of ghosts and such.

Superdome may have to be torn down due to extensive damage

NEW ORLEANS (CNN) -- The Louisiana Superdome was so heavily damaged by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that it may have to be torn down, although the final determination of the dome's fate may be months or years away, a disaster official working with the governor's office told CNN.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the initial assessment of the famed dome indicated the damage is "more significant than initially thought."

Officials said damage includes potential biohazards such as mold and large quantities of human excrement inside the building from when tens of thousands of residents were housed there as a shelter of last resort without power or running water. (Posted 11:51 p.m.)
