SUPERDOME to be torn down!

Analog

Lifer
The Louisiana Superdome was so heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath that it likely will have to be torn down, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco.

Katrina sheared away much of the roof's covering, and rainwater began leaking into the stadium when it was being used as a shelter of last resort for thousands of residents stranded by the storm.

The Superdome is the home of the New Orleans Saints professional football team. The NFL season begins this weekend, and it is not clear where the Saints will play this season.

They should just play in an open field like high school, I think thats the level they play at anyway 😛

from LA to LA

do people in LA even want a bad football team to watch? i thought they cheered when the bad football teams left last time so that they could get the good games on TV each week rather than the then-crappy rams and raiders

I think given the long absence of football in LA (besides the USC Trojans), we're starting to appreciate the sport of football. And really, having a mediocre team is better than having no team at all.

Looks like i will probably attend every home saints game at the San Antonio Alamodome this yera ! Thanks Katrina!!!

I don't care if the Saints or any other team comes to L.A. as long as they pay their own way and it costs the taxpayers absolutely nothing.

wow....So glad I went to see my alma mater win their National Championship there now. Will always have fond memories of it. 🙁

<--- thinks it's just a political move so that the federal taxpayers will foot the bill for a new stadium in NO...
C'mon.. for the most part, the outer structure is barely damaged.
At least, compared to a new stadium, repairs should be a minor fraction of the cost.
And, sh!it cleans up.

Me too. Do you think the governor has spoken with any engineers? Should we listen to any politicians from down there?

no, there are other options in the state of Louisiana.

i think it is a good thing for the NFL season to begin and the Saints to stay where they are. many people will eventually return to NO. they need a sports team to root for

Might as well tag a few hundred million for a new stadium along with the billions already planned for the rest of the city.

Good move.
