<-- goes to check ...

EDIT>>> HD broadcast is still better than regular CBS, but not on par with typical HD if that makes any sense. Not entirely sharp as usual. I'm still getting Dolby Digital on my receiver though.

There was a blurb in the latest Sporting News about how crappy CBS' NFL playoff coverage has been, and joking that they don't deserve the Super Bowl. Stuff like totally losing signal during games, coming back late from commercial and missing kickoffs, and employing Deion Sanders.

Try setting your receiver into stereo mode. I've had problems, mostly with HD Net, with the Dolby Digital soundtrack getting clipped when the volume of the source has sudden spikes (like the crowd cheering suddenly). I turn off the Effects and go into stereo mode and it's fine.

But, fwiw, the CBS broadcast here over Insight Cable is just fine.

Anyone notice how the each camera has a different look. The stuff that is close to the camera is dark and detailed. The people across the field from the cameras are washed out.

I'd hate to be the coordinator of the company that processes and shoots the video [for not haveing all the cameras calibrated]; they are gonna hear it from technicians/video/sound engineers.

Not every camera is an HD camera. The one flying over the field isn't and I think there's one in an end zone that isn't. Also, instant replays typically are not in HD.

We noticed problems at our party. Mainly with sound cutouts, but at one point the whole screen went green for a couple seconds, too. In addition, you could definitely tell which cameras weren't HDTV (and the rainbowing, ugh) ...

I've got no love for CBS.

you better be pulling my leg... I slept through the thing and taped it on my HD DVR. Dang. I'll have to check out the recording.

Other than not getting it at the beginning I didnt have a single problem all night whatever issues you had were your local stations fault.

I saw the green screen too (couple of times, even), but I was not watching an HDTV signal. I think CBS was just having problems all around.

How do they do that bullet-time effect live? Are there just a lot of cameras pointing at the exact same spot on the field?

Yes. And I wish they wouldn't use it. I *HATE* it. It makes me dizzy.
