According to the most recent polling data from RealClearPolitics.com, this is what the Super Tuesday map currently looks like.

Also, Super Tuesday is not as super as the media would like you to believe. Only 10 states have elections on Tuesday. The primary battle will go on long after this.

Seriously, Gingrich should just concede now and spare himself the embarrassment of getting creamed on Super Tuesday.

We can speculate until we are blue in the face about the upcoming super Tuesday results. As we can also say, this year's super day Tuesday is no longer as super as it was in the past.

But I say, why bother, in just a few days we will all know the results and past cheer leading will now do nothing to change actual near future results.

There are no credible national Democratic figures who wanted to challenge an incumbent president in the primaries.

There were also no credible national Republican figures who wanted to challenge the Democratic incumbent, which is how we ended up with the Bozos in the Republican contests now.

You seem to be saying that there actually *are* credible national repub figures...

I can't believe that W Mitt Romney is so popular in VA. That sucks. He's so popular because he's a security Republican like the governor.
Virginia is a welfare state, with an economy wholly dependent on federal spending. They will vote for anyone who will not cut the military, and who does the usual Republican snake dance of pretending to want to cut federal spending levels.

it's not even that he's popular, but the candidates who might have given him a run for his money in VA (re: Gingrich, Santorum) won't be on the ballot due to their own incompetence.

it's not reported on very often, but Newt's financial backer -- Sheldon Adelson -- hates Rick Santorum. he'd be happy with either Gingrich or Romney running in the General Election, so I imagine he'll continue to prop up Newt's empty corpse as long as he can split the Southern vote with Santorum and deny him some easy wins (or at least make him work for them)

It's a small group, but they do exist.

Even as a "lefty" (read: Centrist/moderate), there were a few in the race. Huntsman and Roemer come to mind. I'm sure there were quite a few potential candidates that didn't run that the GOP would have benefited from. However, with the party lurching further right at warp speed, many qualified moderates are left behind with no place in the modern GOP. Hell, I used to be Republican!

Governor Roemer was so marginalized by the Republican establishment that he couldn't get a seat at any of the debates. Governor Huntsman did not have national stature at the beginning of the campaign, but should be recognized as a legitimate contender in 2016.
I was also somewhat impressed by the pragmatic libertarian Governor Johnson, though he was almost as marginalized as Governor Roemer.

I will repeat that none of these was seen as a credible national figure at the start of the campaign. The closest there was in the race is Governor Romney, the candidate that no Republican can seem to love.

I'll have to look into Johnson as I don't know much about him. However, it does go to show that a decent pool of potential candidates does still exist within the GOP. Unfortunately, you are correct - they are either marginalized or they have to change their tone to accommodate the Tea Party, Limbaugh-listening crowd, thereby turning off moderates/centrists.

Back on topic: This will probably go on for quite a while.......The republican convention could be really interesting this year!
if Ron Paul ever manages to win a state, I could totally see a situation in which Romney gets Ron Paul to pledge his delegates to him in order to kick down Santorum, in exchange for Vice President Candidate Rand Paul.

I was talking about this post. It seemed to me that the incumbent party losing in those 2 examples were what you were pointing out and why you are so opposed to Obama getting any competition. I could be wrong though.

Stop talking about nonsense. The incumbent president rarely faces any competition from his own party. That's just the way it is. Stop trying to derail my thread.

Who are you?

I am the person who created this thread. You are some random person who has completely derailed this thread, talking about some random nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of this thread. If you want to talk about Obama, there are plenty of threads to do that. This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Obama. Either refrain from spamming this thread or leave.

My prediction for Super Tuesday: Santorum will win more states, but Romeny will somehow end up winning more delegates, as he always does.

Just got back from voting. Admittedly, it's noon, but the place was dead. Parking lot less than half full.

Last time I was there for voting... was the special Senate election, again, I went around noon, and cars were lined out on the street.

I wonder if Ohio 2012 is going to be like Texas in the 2008 Democratic Primaries -- Hillary won the state, but (if memory serves me) walked away with fewer delegates than Obama because of how the congressional districts were awarded.
