Super Smash Bros. Wii U

Why would you use a gamecube controller? Pretty happy with my pro controller.
There are two reasons.

First and foremost, it's a wired controller, unlike the Wii U Pro Controller. For home use this doesn't make a difference, but for tournament play this matters a lot due to interference.

Second of all, it's the "classic" controller for Smash Bros, having been supported in the last two iterations of the game. So players have had 10 years to get accustomed to it. Plus its asymmetrical layout maps rather well to the game; all of the common controls are on the top row of the controller, the jump button is above the attack button, etc.

I think I can wait for a post-christmas sale before I buy it. Still busy with playing the one decent game Wii U gets every two months.

(in this case, Hyrule Warriors)

I got it, but I didn't get to play it. My Wii U is at my sister's, and she didn't feel like driving me home late at night (gave me a ride to dinner). I didn't feel like getting a ride back across town at 7:30, driving BACK across town, not getting started in the game until after 8, and then having to wrap it up after 2 hours because she wants to go to bed.

I should have just taken the damned Wii U home with me, but I guess I can just get some CoD or Halo in without having the sky fall, and it lets me rethink if I maybe want to return my base copy for a bundle (since my store had one in-stock and they're hard to find).

I suck at the game badly having only played a total of 6 hours between ALL versions but this game is really fun. I don't have any friends with a Wii U (or any actual friends at all) but I've been really impressed at how well the multiplayer runs. It's one of the better releases this year that I was able to get online with no trouble at all (*looks at Halo:MCC*).

Voice chat would've been wonderful for some of the hilarious matches I've had though.

So, controller drama aside, anybody get the game yet?

Played vs my brother today for about 3-4 hours today easily. We didn't even notice time go by playing 1v1.

Midnight now and by the end we were just way too loud. Kids are asleep so it's time to wait til tomorrow I guess. I love it of course. Peach, Rosalina/Luma, Pauletena (or whatever), and Robin are the characters I've been playing around with. Will probably stick with Peach, Rosalina/Luma (amazing char if I can pick up Luma correctly), and Paultena.
Love to see Peach even more powerful than before. Like I needed the buffs on her, nope, but they are certainly welcome lol.

So much fun.

Oh, I played on a Wii U Gamepad, my bro on a GC Controller wireless through the Wiimote. Even with those hampers, we didn't even notice within 10 minutes. We'll be getting GC Controllers though (fresh new ones since the 6+ controllers we already have are worn to shreds lol)

I almost bought the Peach toy Wii thing (not sure what these things even do), in the store today just because lol. God I love smash too much.

That guy most likely deliberately went for getting that message.

Online in general is pretty good. It's very fun and usually smooth. There is a noticeable input lag that makes it not all that great for competitive play but you can at least get some matchup experience.

Picked the game up Friday, started playing today. I really need a Pro controller. I got used to playing with the Wiimotion Plus a bit, but the buttons aren't great. I'm now using the GamePad, and I hate it. Making the player use the joystick for movement is atrocious.

It's like that on the pro controller too FYI, the D-pad is just for taunts (I thought it's always been that way anyways?). I've been really happy with the pro controller for it, I tried the gamepad for a bit but I like the placement of the shoulder buttons a lot more on the pro controller.

I played a lot with friends this weekend, so far I'm liking it a lot. Initially I'd say I like greninja, lucina/marth and robin the most but a lot of characters seem pretty fun to play. Going to try online this week for sure, I'm hoping it works pretty well for me as I don't have a lot of time anymore to get together with people to play.

I can live with the stick (takes some getting used to), but I don't get why they wouldn't make it the player's choice in the options. I don't mind using the tablet, especially since I can use that display to play. Also, I'd like to mention the stupendous idea that is HDMI pass-through on the Xbox One. My TV only has 2 HDMI ports, which are used by my PC and my One. I brought my Wii U home from my sister's to play last night, and figured I would try to run it through the One, rather than unplugging the One from the TV. The thing works perfectly, no discernable input lag from the Wii U to the Xbox One to the TV, played it a bunch alone and with my cousin into the morning.

As for characters, I like to change it up. I've tried quite a lot. My go-to is Charizard (who I wanted from the start), love the flamethrower and the Smash attack for the co-op All-Star mode (my cousin used Ganondorf). Just a quick list of my "yes" and "no" guys:

Like: Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Little Mac, Pit, Ike, Robin, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Greninja, Shulk, Sonic

Dislike: Mario, Luigi, Link, Fox, Pikachu, Lucario, Jigglypuff

I haven't tried the others. Those are all to varying degrees as well, obviously. Like, I could do pretty well with Ike and Greninja, while I was very inconsistent with Little Mac, Meta Knight, and Sonic. On the flip side, Pikachu and Lucario were just OK, while Mario and Fox were horrible.

Wth is up with the dog that blocks the screen...freaking random ass shit!! And some anime looking dude doing poses??

Yeah, that dog's a jerk. We were playing Sunday night, I grabbed the dog item, thinking he'd bite people or something, then we all spend the next 30-60 seconds screaming at this dick of a dog who won't get out of the way.

We're getting the Wii U for the kids for Christmas with next week's Toys 'R' Us deal and I'm thinking of picking up this game with the Buy One get 40% off another game with MK8. However, we currently only have the Wii with 4 regular Wiimotes (read: not motion plus).

Will SSB on the Wii U be horrible using regular Wiimotes (without motion plus)?

I think so. I've been playing this game a lot recently... I didn't even want to try a regular wiimote. The game is really really good though. I like it a lot except there are (I think) too many 1 hit / use to 1 kill or more type items, and some of the stages are ridiculous as to how much stuff you have to do to not die while fighting others. But, you can disable some items and pick your stages when it comes down to it.

If only for the kids I doubt they'll care. Motion Plus won't matter in this game if you use Wiimote+Nunchuk.

It only matters really if you're super serious about the game and are attempting to play at a high level. Even then, I was able to compete against my brother when he used a GC controller and I used a gamepad (My brain hurt at the end though as each input was painfully hard to do and the GC controller feels far more natural).

For kids? My 5 year old cousin has a blast playing no matter what he has in his hands. So all depends on how competitive/old the kids are.

There is no motion requirement for SSB. The motion controllers are awkward to use in Smash though, so I got myself a Pro controller. They might not know any better or care, but for me, the motion controller irritated the hell out of me.
