Super NES version or Genesis version?

The two year difference b/w the consoles means the Genesis shows its age. The sound chip is crap, and the Genesis can only have 64 simultaneous colors compared to 256 for the SNES. It's amazing that some Genesis games looked the exact same or even better at all.

Batman and Robin looks so good for 1988 technology:

...There is no way there are only 64 colors in those shots. Holy crap that is good artistry.

With few exceptions, I preferred the SNES versions. The SNES had better graphics, better controller (which made a difference in fighting games), and better sound.

Mortal Kombat II definitely looked better on the SNES, even if the first didn't. And the second game is the best for that generation, so 'nuff said.

SNES imo was better but not for the graphics. The controller made the difference for me. I had and still have this 20 button arcade stick thingy that made me the all time fighting game champ in my crowd.

Are you joking? SNES graphics for the first Mortal Kombat were nearly arcade perfect. It just didn't have blood. Genesis version might as well have been compared to the Gameboy version other than fatalities.

A little harsh but I also felt the SNES was more faithful graphically.

I felt the genesis version has such clunky animation and a crappy controller that you couldn't do half the move list properly anyway.

snes mk had graphics and sound with shitty control and no blood. genesis had good control and blood but shitty graphics and sound. There were tradeoffs on both.

Yeah there is no perfect home version of MK1 sadly. PS2/XBox had special editions of more recent releases that included the best MK1 ports as bonus discs, arcade perfect. Worst problem is some levels have low background music volume or something like that.

The DOS version was as accurate as you could get to the Arcade without buying a cabinet.

The PS2 and Xbox versions have sound issues and sped up gameplay so it is not faithful to the arcade.

i remember the sega cd version trolled me hard. the original screen shots of it were arcade perfect (had to just be arcade screen shots) then when it came out, it was literally the genesis MK version with arcade perfect sound. oh and it took shang tsung about 30 seconds to morph.

i actually own mk1 arcade pcb that plugs/plays in my ki2 jamma cab. also have mk2 pcb.

Yeah I also got it for segacd and felt cheated. The music and such was amazing for the time. Loading times were not

EA sports games were 100x better on genesis.

Probably one of the main reasons why I had both. The sports games on the SNES was just poor and pretty much have remained that way. I still remember spending hours playing FIFA on the Genesis.

Super Ghouls N Ghosts was ALOT better on the Super Nintendo. The Genesis version looked like it had awful graphics.

But luckily the SegaCD had one of the greatest RPG's ever with a pretty damn good sequel to boot.

Lunar was really good yes.

That guy at 2:57 reminds me of how Nintendo thinks today. "Oh hardware doesn't matter."

Oh and at 3:50 I laugh. "This doesn't come cheap, the NES hardware is $100 and games are $30 and popular titles are $50" "16bit Sega and NEC hardware is $200 and games are $50-$70."

LOL...now if only the current hardware was always that cheap. Now you have the basic unit being around $200 and the ones with more HDD space and pack-in stuff are closer to $300.

This also reminds me of my christmas in 1990. I asked for SMB3 and a couple other games I didn't have. I got a Genesis and 2 games and a $200 in Toys R US Bucks to go buy more games. I didn't bother buying SMB3 and went right to the genesis section because the games looked cooler and it was all new and none of my friends had one. I didn't play SMB3 until years later, long after I had finished SMW.

That $200 back then is probably $300-$400 nowadays so it's all relative. Games were much more expensive back then as well comparatively.

Well, when many NES games were $30 that wasn't that expensive in 1990 even with inflation.

When SNES and Genesis games started inching toward $80 a piece though...

Yeah, the most expensive SNES, Genesis and N64 games cost more than today's titles before inflation.

I paid like $80-90 for street fighter 2 for the SNES. It was worth every penny, but there's very few games Id pay $160ish for in 2012 bucks nowadays.

Secret of Mana, FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound...

Yeah they were worth every penny.
