Super Mario 3D Land IGN review up

I really wish the 3DS had more good games because I'd love to play this, but it doesn't seem like a very good investment to buy one for a single game.

Finished the main part of the game (worlds 1-8) with all stars. Last battle with Bowser is suitably epic. 😎

Once you finish the game you unlock 8 more Special worlds! Very nice! Lots of extra content then. I'm on world S1-2. I can tell these are going to be much harder, especially finding the stars.

8 special worlds? Wow. That's pretty awesome.

well this sucks. apparently you NEED to collect these stupid stars. i got to the castle on w5 and i needed 50 stars to get in! had to replay all the levels to get them. ffff!

are the new worlds the same as the old ones but harder? or are they different stages altogether?

Different all together.

You even get to play as Luigi after beating Special World 1. Also the Tanuki Suit now allows you to turn into stone like in SM3

Love the level design and tons of winks and nods back to vintage mario. In fact this is the first Mario game I've played in a long time that even plays more like old school Mario.

BTW you don't need to collect ALL the stars. If you collect all of them like I'm doing then you will have more than the number needed at each of these locked points.

It's been a good month for old school gamers. The best portable Mario yet and the best Sonic since the Genesis era.

I love how Nintendo is using the new depth of field. Picked it up today. I'm on W2 and loving it so far.

Damn S7-4 is hard. Wasted 40+ lives on it so far. I've got the rhythm of it down now so it shouldn't take much longer to crack it but I only have 4 lives left. Course I'm trying to get all 3 stars. I should probably go get a Tanuki suit, this level would be so much easier with one.

Finished the game all worlds, all stars (294 but you can get more from getting extra mystery boxes apparently). It does get extra challenging in S7 and 8. The levels with evil clone mario chasing you are particularly crazy. The 30 second time trial levels too.

Yeah but I prefer to challenge myself to finish the game without using any of those.

Cool Bowser gets harder the 2nd time you face him. Beating him a 2nd time also gives you a "4 star" rating on your save file. Not sure if that means anything.

It's also fun to beat Bowser as Luigi too.
