Super Mario 3D Land IGN review up

while i'm not saying it isn't a good game cause i haven't played it, and i think it looks pretty awesome, ign is by FAR the worst site for reviews worth a damn. it's obvious they are paid off to give rave reviews for blockbuster games.

Worst? I don't know. Bad? Yes. Then again, most popular gaming websites hand out high scores like candy to bigger titles. No one is critical enough of games anymore (probably because many gamers only want rehashes over and over and over). Those that are critical of games are usually over critical for whatever reason (fanboy? hater? wanting to look "cool" or go against the grain?).

i guess the main thing that bugs me about IGN is the final score they give games. they will rip a game apart and talk about flaws it has and problems they have with it, then turn around and give it a 9.9/10.

that just doesn't sit with me right. i haven't read their reviews in ages though so it may not be the same anymore.

and the bribe incentive is extremely high now since 3DS has/is sales failure. Nintendo needs to jump start 3DS sales badly so I'm sure they're willing pay even more now for glowing review.

I don't think they're getting paid. Accusing a publication of accepting payola is pretty serious in a business where reputation is everything. Look at what happened to Gamespot after the Kane & Lynch scandal.

I don't doubt that they do bump scores to keep advertisers happy though, since they'll gravitate towards more favourable publications. That's why aggregate sites and user reviews are more useful.

IGN does tend to give very favourable reviews to blockbuster titles. There aren't many games out there that deserve a 10. Since I started reviewing games for my own blog, I think I only ever gave one 10.

Bribe, gift, whatever. It's just a name. Every business bribes. EVERY. They may not call it bribe. Free luncheon/ dinners. Free vacations. Gift cards or other bonus for referrals. Rewards/loyalty program. Sales commission. etc. Bribes don't have to be cash although that's usually the most effective.

Since reputation is everything for reviewers/review sites. You better have actual evidence of bribery occurring. Otherwise it is pretty much like having someone run around claiming that the neighbor is a child rapist. You haven't provided evidence, but the label clearly can and does affect the accused.

picked it up today. so far, its ok. its a mix between SMB Galaxy and the New SMB. love the reto music, graphics are on cool, and it has that classic nostalgic feel. The 3D is well done, but it gets overwhelming at times. only 20 minutes in. will report back after putting more time in.

I understand the first 8 worlds are fairly easy but very fun. The difficulty really ramps up past world 8 from what I hear.

i remember in the old days with physical magazines (they were like paperback books but larger and lots o pretty pics for you youngins out there) i used to get a kick from a magazine like VG&CE where a game might get a very bad review, then on the opposite page would be that game's advertisment flyer. lol
except Gamepro..or worse, NIntendo power where its well...obvious of the influences.

then their not trying hard enough. IGN kinda makes it seem obvious. whether they are influenced or not. its very often hard to see any non bias from them the way they score games. its one of those sites that always reminds me of Nintendo Power magazine. lol

if i had a 3DS I'd definitely get this game. looks great. ive been pretty happy with the last few mario games. hopefully zelda is just as good. gonna get that since i do have a wii

Got it. On world 2 right now. Fun game. The analogue slider on the 3DS makes it harder than it has to be IMO. And the 3D both helps and works against you depending on the level. Very fun game though. Love the new powerups and how well integrated they are.

On world 7-3 now. 113 Stars I think, all of them up to this point. The last star on 2-2 took a long time to find. Yes it's quite easy so far but very very fun!!

Finished the main part of the game (worlds 1-8) with all stars. Last battle with Bowser is suitably epic. 😎

Once you finish the game you unlock 8 more Special worlds! Very nice! Lots of extra content then. I'm on world S1-2. I can tell these are going to be much harder, especially finding the stars.

well this sucks. apparently you NEED to collect these stupid stars. i got to the castle on w5 and i needed 50 stars to get in! had to replay all the levels to get them. ffff!

are the new worlds the same as the old ones but harder? or are they different stages altogether?
