Hey mods, any chance of us getting an ignore filter? That way we wouldn't even need to see anything from those we deem thread crappers or idiots.

Anyways, my CPU temp at idle is 44C and 47C - 48C full load.

I don't know of any air cooler that will show only 3C difference between idle and full load.
Let me guess, GC68?

So there are only three options:
(a) you don't know much about idle/full load
(b) you are exaggerating
(c) you have water cooling

I somewhat doubt the third one.

No, soccer bud, that is OK cooler though not on par with Volcano 7+.

The trick is thermal resistance. If the difference is 20W between the idle and the full load, since your Volcano 7 has thermal resistance between 0.52 and 0.57 (better than GC68), you would have about 11C difference between the idle and the full load. This is very simple mathematics. 3C or even less difference is possible only with the liquid cooling.
We are talking about XP 1600 I guess.

I already suggested to somebody before so why not again - visit frostytech.com, they are testing a sort of generic CPU forcing the difference of operation to be between 50W and 100W, using copper blocks instead of CPU core. You can easily see how huge the difference between those two ends gets even with the best air coolers like Arkua, Alpha, or Swiftech with far better thermal resistance than Volcano 7.
Their test does not simulate the CPU operation though, but it can give you some idea and it certainly does not depend on a proper installation of cooler.

Enough with the damn bickering...now for something completely different:

[Holding the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.]
-How does it... um... how does it work?
-I know not, my liege.
-Consult the Book of Armaments!
-Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.
-And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats and large chu--
-Skip a bit, Brother...
-And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
-Amen.
-Amen.
-Right. One... two... five!
-Three, sir.
-Three!

For all the people who didn't get in on the deal and for all the MP fans out there

BigJ2078, tell me you memorized that! Anyway, I finally bit on the XP1600+.
So far for my new rig:

Antec 1080B Plus (staples deal)
epox 8kha+ (newegg refurb)
GC68
XP1600+

So far I haven't broken the bank. I have a feeling the PC2700 will do it though. :( I know the GeForce4 TI4200 128 meg will! :)

AMDfreak, such a thing would come in handy wonderfully. I'd love to see more posts per page from other people instead of one person replying multiple times in a row when they could've said what they needed to in just one post.

Big, it's about as on-topic as some of the posts made by *cough* some people. All I can say is, how do you know so much about swallows?

Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know. ;)

That was hilarious! At the risk of sounding stupid, and we know this thread does not allow stupid, what were you quoting? Oh wait!! When you said "MP", were you talking about "Athlon MP" or . . .
(Slap my forehead and DUH)

btw, drewdogg808, what voltages are you at with the fsb at 166 and the multiplier at 10?
1.775v
Yes, better memory should get you to 11*166 instead of 10*166. You probably should just get some Corsair and ship me your old memory. lol
memory has no effect on multiplier
yes, i know that memory has no effect on multiplier. if you read my post carefully, you would have noticed that i was answering the question of not reaching 166 fsb that easily. and since pc2100 is only rated at 133, memory does have an effect on fsb.

I have 5-year old AMD K6-2 400 that serves as a print and scanner server pretty good

Hmm a five year old K6-2 400Mhz?

I remember buying a K6-2 300Mhz in 1998 when the 350Mhz was the fastest I believe. ;)

Anyway never mind you can use it for at least another 10-15 years - it will run like a charm until then :)

As for the old computers, I don't know about that. I have 5-year old AMD K6-2 400 that serves as a print and scanner server pretty good. (snip) So you can make fair use of old machines, believe me.

Yep, that proves that a 5 year old is worth a lot.
But wait............
K6-2 400 "wasn't even available 4 years ago", so don't see hwo you had one 5 years ago?.?.?

Let's see, what would I rather have, a 3 1/2 year old K6-2 400, or a brand new Duron at 1.2Ghz for $28 (TCWO overclocked to 133mhz)?
I think that puts the value of the K6-2 400 at about $5.
After 3 1/2 years, the CPU dropped in value about 500%.
In 3 1/2 years the XP1600+ here should be worth about $5 or less.
Heck, even in about 1 year it should only have a value of $20 or $30.

The savings achieved by getting the XP1600+ ($67) instead of paying extra for the XP2100+ ($156),
and running it at XP2100+ are huge. That is beside the nice performance increase at 166MHz you would get.

Humm,
388 posts, and only one guy has anything and everything bad to say about the deal.
I think we found the definition of thread crapper.

Well, OK, you found your glasses, it is not five so it is four.

That is a price of one hard drive. You must be penniless when that is huge. Like that $10 savings you get on a cooler. What are you going to do with that? I think it is safe to assume you have no money to buy software, right?

I use computers, I teach others to use them and there are essential part of the way I earn living. For most of you that are ganging up and talking nonsense here, that is only for the sake of talking nonsense, the same way you would boost a car. You in particular have no need for that *huge* performance boost for you are saying it will go down the drain in 6 months from now anyway. What you gonna do with that, play 3D games? Then with that beard of yours you can brag about some amazing game score you achieved to a 5-year-old?

If you can open your eyes, you'll see that you did not only buy a CPU but you are buying all sorts of cheap stuff so that you can assemble some sort of Frankenstein PC. In reality you saved nothing but payed two times more for the things you have no need in the first place except to brag.

I was talking to *RobsTV* not to you. He commented my post. If you recognized yourself, that is your problem only.;)
If you don't want me to be around then do not ask me anything. I have no interest talking to you either.
The guys like you are bringing this thread so repeatedly back again, not me.

Hey Steve, I found out what you use computers for!
To design the instructions on the back of cheap useless items such as the flashing safety device :D
Here's some of Steve's Finest work.
Honestly, between giving out physics lessons and the various faults of very popular and affordable CPU coolers,
I don't know when you find the time to post here, much less actually have a * real * job.

True, my English is not up to your standards, I am sure you know Chinese well too.
I am not teaching English, I was teaching YOU and you-alike, check the top of this page, how to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. I am sure you would know what is the correct spelling.;)
That is the math and physics part. :)
Instead of getting your gratitude, it seems that it has only bruised your pride in being ignorant. Don't worry, I'll let you recover.

By the way, if the writting of instructions is left to you and similar the instructions would look far more idiotic and it is doubtfull there would be any improvement in English either. For it takes more money to teach English to you than to teach mathematics and physics to a whole class of Chinese kids. You know the ones that made all those parts you are getting as a deal to put in your build-yourself-PC.

Chinese is in English, what you want to say is Mandarin. I do not speak Cantonese, I speak Taiwanese. But you know we are going way out here, so I am out of this thread. Enjoy.

You know, I was skeptical about overclocking my 1600+. I just wanted a good processor at a decent price. I didn't plan on overclocking - my past experiences in overclocking have yielded minimal gains. But...this was insane. The CPU temp is 48 C most of the time at 1.74 GHz. The big thing is, I'm only running it on an Epox 8K7A+. That's right, the old AMD 761/VIA 686B hybrid. The memory is Crucial PC2100 DDR, but I think having the RAM heatsinks I bought at the last computer show helps.

You've made a believer out of me! I keep waiting for something to go wrong but this baby keeps on chugging, stable as it usually is. Praise be to AGOIA!

PRICE DROP $60.00 on Pricewatch.com or 59.99 on NewEgg's homepage.

Another Pricewatch vendor is at $55. I'll stick with NewEgg and hope for a good core. What have they been shipping lately?

I see it as $59.99 with $3 shipping. I got it when it was $66 with free shipping before, but hey, $3 is $3.

Replay, they've been sending out AGOIAs.
