Did a little searching, very old deal, so maybe its some clearance item at one local store, but sounds more like a price mistake.

Staples.com is offering the Sony Double Layer 16X DVD+RW/-RW drive for just $69.94 with free shipping after a $30 rebate and $20 off $100+ coupon code "42498" (expires today). Click here for the techdeal and search for "580278".

************ Same deal, price, is what I see now $70 AMIR.

This was also posted at Hard, and confirmed by a Staples employee. So it does appear to be nationwide, just YMMV on stock.

Hate to say it but I have one of these drives. I wouldn't buy another (unless it's free :)) It doesn't work properly with CD's for some reason. I've flashed it, reloaded my system, and several other things. Works OK for DVD's though.

The last couple drives I purchased were Benq 1620's. Love this drive.

Very YMMV. I spoke with a guy at Staples and he says he hasn't heard anything about these in 6 months when they first clearanced them out. Reports at Fatwallet are saying that whole states don't have any and people are getting lucky finding one on a table in some stores.

Tallahassee stores sold their last ones in March and May. :( Ah, well, it was worth a try. Congrats to those of you able to find these.

Called many Staples in the Long Beach/South Bay area and all appeared to be looong since OOS. Had the fortune of finally (randomly) calling the Staples in Brea. They didn't have any there, but a nice employee checked out all the stores in her operational area of O.C., and had the additional courtesy to check out all or most of the L.A.-area stores for this particular drive. Seemed most stores were either out, if they somehow managed to still have 1 or 2 in the store, those also were not available as they were 'on hold.' One store in Chino Hills still had one in stock, but when the employee there realized the deal, she was hesitant to part with it. So the Brea rep, being good friends with the manager there, told her to hold the drive for her, and informed her that I'd be picking it up for her. Guess the HD was so good, Staples employees said to hell with the customer--THIS IS MINE!

So I think I snagged the last remaining drive in the L.A.-area. Whew!

I'm now a happy, happy man! :D

Thx for the HD tip, OP!:thumbsup::)
